I think the issue is that there is no easy solution within the appalling system left after the initial privatisation - there is no silver bullet, including nationalisation but taking everything back under Government control and then looking at it all again may be the only long-term option, even though it may be 15 years until we can even start that

As in many cases, labour has to try and make the best out of terrible Tory decisions

One thing that is so refreshing about Stephen Bush is that whilst he is no Corbynite himself (he was an open D Miliband supporter in the Ed years) he actually shows interest in why Corbyn rose from apparently nowhere, and why he has retained such strong support despite his inevitable struggles as Labour leader.

There's a full feature by Labour's rail advisor, Ian Taylor, in Rail Magazine. Just glanced at it, but the nub seems to be reducing the number of interfaces. Sounds OK, but I don't think you can avoid other inefficiencies popping up with a big organization being created. I think 3 out of about 8 "talking head in an insert" experts supported the plans.

I liked the Walker article. Bear in mind that not having universal free parking doesn't mean that you can't have it some places where there is space and public transport is very poor.

One thing I worry about is with new hospitals. If the expectation becomes free parking, there could be a tendency to stick them out of town- like eg Worcester Hospital. Which has nonetheless run out of (paid) parking space!

Yeah, it's the priorities you choose that matter, however you're funding it.

As previously stated it saved the hospital at least a hundred quid a visit with the use of a PA/car when could.(yet another reason why restricting/heightening eligibility to social care is a very bad idea and personal budget a possible "way out"-subject to adequate budget)

Choice/best for self tends to be cheaper than "given",by some degree.Wrest the "50 billion quid" repeatedly proclaimed,would make far better use of it.Storm the DWP.et al.

To be fair I may be at cross purposes on the view of UBI,if and only if the particularities of extra costs/restricted earnings of sickness/disability/caring resp.not necessarilly bespoke but as a consequence of subject to circumstances can be adequately accounted for whether boost/additional to bespoke or via health/social care route AS INCOME/BUDGET rather than "services" and/or contingent to "preferred behaviour" (ha)I may relax my view.

Can someone tell me when Owen Jones became an official spokesman for the Labour Party?

People are dying in hospitals because of the policies of this Government and people are dying in destitution because of policies of this Government. ii was in Brighton last week and saw more homeless people than I have ever seen anywhere since under Waterloo Bridge in the 80s...

None of this is due to Brexit - it is due to the policies being put in place by this Government - some of them also, I am sad to say, supported by parts of the Labour Party in the early days

Brexit will be a chronic drag on us in the future but focusing on just this subject allows the Tories to escape blame for their desired outcomes
