Now that Europe is leading the developed world in growth, productivity and job creation after the euro gained 14.2 percent last year — the most among 16 major currencies and the strongest appreciation since 2003 — Greece is the biggest beneficiary and Britain is the new sick man of Europe.

Two cabinet meetings with no progress and now they're off to Chequers, one would guess/hope this is why.

This being why HMG (and Labour) assiduously avoid making real decisions of any kind. The moment reality enters the debate, the total incoherence of the project is exposed and the two parties...and possibly the Union itself...fall apart.

It may be, in the longer historical view, that the UK has always needed external glue to stay together. Being in the EU... and whining continually about it... was actually that social and economic glue, just as the Empire once was.
Don't think he needs to bring Labour into it mind.

If NI stays in single market, the case for Scotland also doing so is not just an academic ‘us too’ argument - it becomes a practical necessity. Otherwise we will be at a massive relative disadvantage when it comes to attracting jobs and investment.

Though an atrocious way of doing it IMHO,particular with the default imposition introduced by the Coalition, with an increase for most in charging for social care,a doubly whammy for not an insubstantial number.Unless the whole basis of debate changes to a fundamental independent living issue any discussion will remain missing the point and diversionary.

The Citizens’ Assembly on Brexit

The trade stuff is 'cake and eat it' but the immigration conclusion is reassuring.
an absolute majority of members chose an option under which the UK government would maintain free movement for EU nationals, but would make full use of controls that are available within the single market to limit migration by those who cannot sustain themselves financially.

"The Department has no national strategy to address this workforce challenge and key commitments it has made to help make the sector more attractive, through enhanced training and career development, have not been followed through.

Furthermore, the NAO has not found any evidence that the Department is overseeing workforce planning by local authorities and local health and care partnerships, which commission care, to help with the challenge. Without a national strategy to align to, few local areas have detailed plans for sustaining the care workforce.

The NAO has recommended that the Department produces a robust national workforce strategy with the support of the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government and that it encourages local and regional bodies to align their own plans to it. The Department also needs to invest more to enable commissioners to set appropriate fees for providers, so they can pay staff adequately and afford to offer career development and training opportunities."

Please read the National Audit Office's (NAO) write up on the page below, it's article length and it's scathing.
It's a big deal, this. It's about Tory neglect of health and social care, Tory privatisations, piracy, Tory decimation of local authority (LA) budgets and the future Tory government wish upon most people - paid a pittance for some of the hardest work anyone can do.

I've just come across this post over at the Guardian. I'd been wondering when this would be floated as a solution!

Has anyone here heard the LBC thing referred to?

and then see what happens

Depends on NHS/LA funding caveat,ie we suspended when replaced with Continuing Care(dying at home)which was an agency.
