Well, Boris Johnson and Theresa May both bombed - so yes, I expect it is.

It's quite amazing that Helen Lewis just knows what Jeremy Corbyn thinks.

She provides some decent support for the rest of her assertions, but on Corbyn she's just making it up in the usual way.

The quote is
Corbyn himself talks relentlessly about a “jobs-first Brexit” to disguise the fact he’s fine with pretty much any kind of Brexit.
Is it really unreasonable to assume that Corbyn actually wants to put jobs first?

Oh Paul.

So she's right about all the politicians you dislike, just not the one you like.

Yes I know you and Helen Lewis suffer the same inability to back up assertions with any shred of explanation or evidence. I didn't really need you to demonstrate it again ;-)

Its about what she deserves.

One of the most vapid milquetoast centrists out there, her response to Trump's victory (she would be getting out her West Wing box set) really said it all.

Oh, there is of course at least one exception to this - she is a pretty vicious TERF.

Meanwhile, sensible centrist hero Macron has announced he wants to restore compulsory military service.

Seems to have been an election promise. Completely unnecessary.

I don't think the conscription period is going to be very long, seeing he's lined the military up for cuts. Edit- he seems to have scrapped the military cuts.

I think I agree - actually a non-military form *can* sound attractive on paper, but the devil is in the detail. In practice it will always be problematic, I suspect.

Compelling people to work, even if it is "improving" or "for their own benefit" is slavery.

Pretty much. Working for a living, working for currency paying taxes, shelter and food is often not fulfilling. Worse, it's dangerous, taking years off our lives, causing disability.

Certainly it's a problem with pure liberalism isn't it?

Can we truly sustain effective communities if everyone's right to be completely free is paramount?

When? With what time? Students have at least one full time job as it is - study.

The lack of detail and uncertainty for EEA nationals with just months to go before the process to confirm their status is supposed to start and only a year to go before Brexit is not only difficult and stressful for those affected, it also raises serious questions about [UK Visas and Immigration] UKVI’s level of preparedness and ability to deliver a new system. If key questions are not swiftly resolved and delivery plans drawn up, we do not believe that UKVI will be capable of delivering significant changes to the system either at the border or on registration by March 2019.

It is deeply regrettable that the Home Office does not now intend to publish the promised White Paper on Immigration until autumn of this year. This means continued anxiety for individuals and heightens the prospect of UKVI having insufficient time to plan properly to deliver its services. Much greater clarity is needed now on a series of issues which are causing uncertainty for EEA citizens, employers and UKVI staff.

The Home Office’s roll out of a simple phone app to register EU citizens in the UK, replacing the 85-page application pack, has been delayed because of the prime minister’s warning that they will have no automatic right to remain if they come to the UK after 29 March 2019.
