We believe nationalisation should be of the key profitable sectors: the commanding heights of the economy, to use the words of Nye Bevan. Nationalised industries should be run under workers’ control and management.

Not much actually going to happen there, I suspect.

I think that'd be an interesting development, Sinn Fein taking their seats in Westminster

I studied political science at University level in the US just prior the return of a Labour government in 1997
One of my professors was absolutely fascinated with UK politics
I should have been too but wasn't
I understand better now

It would be quite remarkable.

I'm not certain we're in a place where Sinn Fein would consider such a drastic action (from their point of view) being worthwhile. However Brexit goes, it seems to me there is an angle that would bolster the campaign for a united Ireland. And their presence would only reduce May's leeway. It wouldn't be decisive.

"Peter Hain tables Brexit amendment to ensure frictionless Irish border"
The amendment says the Brexit bill should not “breach the obligations” of the GFA nor “create hard border arrangements” between the two states on the island of Ireland. It also seeks an assurance that nothing will “diminish the alignment” between the rules of the EU internal market and customs union as exercised in Ireland “so far as they support north-south cooperation, the all-island economy and the protection of the Belfast agreement”.

Just watched Newsnight - the Irish must think we have completely lost it

Evan Davis harangued an Irish minister almost shouting 'where are you going to put the border' - the minister replied that the agreement says no border on the island of Ireland....and the haranguing continued. This is even before Bernard Jenkin stepped in

Does Davis not realise the Irish are not putting a border anywhere - it it the British who are leaving and they will decide what they need to do when we finally make up our mind what we want

Legally they will demand not border in Ireland so then the only other option is in the Irish Sea.........

How can the Tories hold themselves together in order to commit to the Withdrawal Bill I do not know

It is not so much the idea of Brexit that is the issue we have - it is the sheer incompetence of the Tory Party to enact it and the lack of basic understanding and complete indifference to the other side

This was always going to be hard - but I never quite thought it would be like this
