Morning.

Defrosting head in microwave.

The last mile wasn't so bad it was the first exposed to the elements two where I nearly took off;did consider flapping my arms in attempt to fly home but I haven't got my pilots' licence.

Much as Laura Kuenssberg annoys me, I often find her writing quite impressive.

Morning all.

No snow overnight and no sign of thawing either. Very breezy but I might venture out to go swimming this afternoon.

Interesting bit of re-positioning here.

Exclusive: School autonomy group wants to become the voice for academies

https://www.tes.com/news/school-news/br ... -academies" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
An organisation that campaigns for school autonomy is seeking to transform itself into a trade association to lobby on behalf of the academy sector.

There are currently 2,700 academy trusts, ranging in size from one school to more than 60, but there are concerns that the DfE often consults only a limited number of favoured organisations.

Now Fasna – the Freedom and Autonomy for Schools National Association, which traces its origins back to 1992 – wants to become an organisation that can speak on behalf of the whole sector.
How about "We lost the argument over school autonomy since so many MATs tell their schools what to do, so now we'd like to be the head of the MAT group instead."

I watched more than 5 minutes of QT myself, unusually, there did seem to be a surprising number of remainers in the audience, who cheered Ken Clarke - and then roundly booed him when he said fracking was the way to revive the local economy.

I note there are two versions of Test 4 in circulation. The other says "consistent with the kind of country we want to be".

Learners let down by Learndirect, say MPs

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/education-43241486?
The government has been criticised for its role in giving millions of pounds of taxpayers' money to a UK training provider accused of failing to deliver.

The House of Commons Public Accounts Committee says Learndirect Ltd has failed to tackle its poor performance, letting thousands of learners down.

The committee says the situation raises concerns about government outsourcing services to private companies.

The government said it "continued to monitor" Learndirect's performance.

The PAC report says that, in the wake of the collapse of construction giant Carillion , questions are "rightly being asked about how government manages companies who deliver our public services".
Government shrugs shoulders and continues to do the same in the name of "public sector reform"

Morning.

It was pretty chaotic in North East Somerset yesterday as #StormEmma hit earlier than forecast, though we weren't as badly hit as southern Somerset.

Everyone's snowed in today with all buses cancelled and schools shut.

With people struggling just to get about, the Tory obsession with Europe has never seemed so self-indulgent and irrelevant to most people's lives.

Talking of comedy turns, it's nearly time for the great speech!

Remember this was meant to be the culmination of the 'Road to Brexit' series of speeches by May (in Munich), Boris, Fox, Lidington then May again.

I find I can't recall anything of interest from that series, not even a mugwump popinjay comment from Johnson.

Weather report.

It hasn't snowed much here since yesterday morning but the wind is still arctic, mr gilsey cleared the drive and saw one of the local farmers who said the roads were ok, so we've been to the co-op for bread and milk. They'd had a Warburtons delivery which was almost sold out but no own brand at all, milk running low and not much veg. Depends where the deliveries are coming from, I suppose.

It's only 4 miles away but there's only about a quarter of the depth of snow we have here and nowhere near as windy.

She says she wants the “broadest and deepest possible partnership.
We already have the broadest and deepest possible partnership as a member of the EU. Anything we end up with is going to be less broad and not as deep as we have now. So much talk about the things the UK government want to stay the same, so little detail about what they want to change.

One of the local farmers was buried in the snow in your drive? Blimey - that's bad.
