Toady -- at 0600 Nick Robinson manages to read out that there WERE removals targets .

Leading on it again at 6.30 with quotes from Rudd. She had no idea about bloody anything. HO staff aiming at " Low hanging fruit", target figures pinned on office walls FFS.

One question that has never been answered is on the related matter of unethical behaviour on WCA's --- WHY didn't the professional bodies mobilise to oppose nurses and physios collaborating with the DWP ?

The same applies to the Home office unions . Orders are orders ?

Not holding my breath.

Light relief --

If Theresa May knew the Windrush generation and their children were British all along - as she says in #PMQs - why was she stopping their rights to work, healthcare and benefits and detaining or deporting them? And why did she ignore the clear alarms raised until this week?

UK government paid consultants £680K for Brexit customs plan
The proposal is one of two UK suggestions rejected by Brussels and widely criticized by British MPs.

It's just a repeat of the DWP and sanctions.
Amber Rudd’s opening statement.

I have never agreed that there should be specific removal targets and I would never support a policy that puts targets ahead of people.

The immigration arm of the Home Office has been using local targets for internal performance management. These were not published targets against which performance was assessed, but if they were used inappropriately then I am clear that this will have to change.

I have asked officials to provide me with a full picture of performance measurement tools which are used at all levels, and will update the House and the Home Affairs select committee as soon as possible.

Not sure if we had this but I thought it was very good indeed, from the Independent yesterday.

Rudd sets massive new Brexit hare running by refusing to confirm UK will definitely leave EU’s Customs Union: “I’m afraid I’m not going to be drawn on that”. Instead, says discussions still ongoing in Cabinet #pressgallery

Thanks to the Press Gallery for hosting me at a challenging yet enjoyable lunch. I should have been clearer - of course when we leave the EU we will be leaving the customs union. I wasn't going to get into ongoing cabinet discussions about our future trading relationship.

A significant number of accounts with no followers are punting the nonsense that Labour is somehow responsible for the Windrush scandal & Theresa May’s ‘hostile environment’ policies.
Is this the first foray of a Tory troll farm?
I wonder who's in charge of the Troll Farm? Not the brightest whoever it is.

9. Davis says CU had advantages in the 70s. UK trade is currently 60pc to EU, 40pc to rest of the world. “In a year or so that will be reversed”. Says UK wants a “racing start” to avail of global trade opportunities. No need for an extension of membership of CU.
Yes, that's exactly what we're afraid of. :wall:

Actually, if Heidi Allen was resigning as an MP that would be pretty big - and tbh unexpected - news. I assume you really mean Heidi ALEXANDER, though?

In a speech Mr Barnier rejected Theresa May’s call for continued trade in financial services between Britain and the EU “based on the UK and EU maintaining the same regulatory outcomes over time”.

“I can perfectly see the UK's logic and interest in pleading for a system of ‘mutual recognition’ and ‘reciprocal regulatory equivalence’,” Mr Barnier said at a finance conference in the Bulgarian capital. “This is, indeed, what the single market achieves!”
Well, exactly. We want to leave so everything can be the same. Forget "sick man of Europe", we're the ruddy thick man of Europe.
