PM @Theresa_May and Brexit Secretary @DavidDavisMP today signed commemorative copies of the EU (Withdrawal) Act for each of the ministers who worked on this crucial piece of Brexit legislation.

This is the problem. It’s easy to talk up a different Brexit, but 2 years on from the referendum proponents of a harder exit still haven’t produced a plan for what it would actually look like.

Good morfternoon.
According to the Press Association, the Brexit department does not actually know whether Suella Braverman has resigned or not as a Brexit minister.

Last night it was reported that she had quit with David Davis and Steve Baker, her fellow Brexit ministers. (See 00.51am.) Braverman (Suella Fernandes until she married) was Jacob Rees-Mogg’s predecessor as chair of the European Research Group, and is a very hardline Brexiter.

But this morning it is being said she is staying. (Politics Live, Guardian)
What a state to be in!

What - as a suggested replacement for Theresa May? If that's what you mean, where did you hear it, please?

He'd go from being Failing Grayling to Flailing Grayling in one seamless move.

Half asleep when I posted the above. Floated as a possible David Davis replacement, presumably. (Although events have now moved on.)

Morning.

Lot's of huffing and puffing from Tory Brexiters this morning. May will have to change her mind, apparently. Have none of them processed what she agreed to in December and the direction of travel she has already committed to? The funniest thing about all this is that the Brexiters (bar Rees-Mogg) have been swearing blind we wouldn't reduce any of our standards for a trade deal with the US but are now complaining May's plan would prevent us from reducing our standards to get a trade deal with the US!

What this is really about, of course, is that the EU will reject May's plan and judging from Brexiter reactions today she is suspected of planning to give even more ground towards soft Brexit. This is either the last dying throes of hard Brexit or the early rumblings of a Tory party finally being cracked asunder on the rocks of Europe. Best guesses to which way we're headed? Victory for Tory remainers or Tory party Armageddon? Or will May fudge it yet again and pander to hardliner demands? Hard to see that happening with big business piping up for a customs union and her December agreement driving a bus through her red lines.

What a mess.

Exactly. You read DD's letter and it's full of what May's doing wrong but still no practical alternatives, he seems to have learned nothing from his 2 years 'negotiating' with the EU.

I'd rather try and predict the result of ENGCRO than what happens next re Brexit.

There will be no negotiation. It is simply a matter of the EU doing what it has always done – standing by its rule book & inviting UK to continue to adopt it post-Brexit or else lose tariff free access to SM. Only Brexit fantasists think the UK is in any position to negotiate.
This is what DD has failed to learn, in a nutshell.

Live thread 10.54 "" 1 - Dominic Raab is a prominent Brexiter, and so Theresa May is continuing with the principle that has generally governed her emergency cabinet reshuffles of “like-for-like” replacement of remainers and leavers. (In that respect, the UK increasingly resembles one of those foreign states where posts in government are divided up amongst religious sects.) Raab played a leading role in the Vote Leave campaign. Theresa May's new Brexit secretary previously called for Britain to use negotiations with the EU to scrap workers' rights.

Dominic Raab, who appointed to lead Brexit negotiations after David Davis dramatically quit on Sunday, authored a paper calling for Britain to negotiate opt-outs from EU employment regulations, including those that guarantee employees time off and limit the number of hours staff can be made to work.

He also opposed rules that give long-term agency workers the same rights as full-time staff, and those that stop people being sacked if their company changes owner.

The revelation is likely to fuel fears that Brexit could be used to remove currently guaranteed by EU laws.

The Independent has previously revealed that a government document suggested workers rights could be reviewed after Britain leaves the EU as part of a process of “maximising regulatory opportunities” to boost the economy.

Labour said Mr Raab had 'has long harboured ambitions to slash vital workplace protections'.
