No doubt for the sake of the "public purse".Apparently, you are removed from being a member of the public. As well as "taxpayer",which always confused me.

FWIW all the (previous) ruling would have meant at most for us was a rejigging, the amount paid in total because 24hour shift (which never was)-"normal" rate more than MW)At the time there were two different sleep in rates paid by Council for budgeting purposes

Morning A and thanks for the posts :-)

I'm just musing on May's threat to the Tory Brexiteer rebels that she would call an election if they voted against her.

But she can't! Loads of Tories would have to vote for. And that isn't going to happen is it?

Falling prices for clothing and games, toys and hobbies provided the largest downward effects."

@ToryFibs

Big News. Growing chance that the House of Lords could send the Tory Customs Bill back to the House of Commons. They've just ruled it's a non-Money bill, which means it is open to amendments. This ain't over yet folks. May might have to come back from Ireland for votes.

Willow, I was put off from reading the Time article by that first hurdle ! Is this an accurate quote ?

"" The biggest mistake that Putin made in his offer today to effectively swap me for the 12 Russian agents is that he went to the wrong head of state. Although I was born in America, I emigrated to the United Kingdom 29 years ago and am a British citizen. If he really wants me, he better go talk to Theresa May, who might have a few choice words for him after Russian agents spread the military-grade nerve agent Novichok across the cathedral town of Salisbury, England. ""

There's more in this New York Times article here that might help clarify:

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/07/16/worl ... estor.html

Quote:
The Kremlin, Mr. Putin said, would allow Mr. Mueller and his team to travel to Russia and be present at the questioning of 12 Russian military intelligence officers the special counsel indicted last week for hacking into the computer systems of the Democratic National Committee and the emails of Hillary Clinton’s campaign chairman.

In exchange, however, the United States would have to permit Russian law enforcement officials to take part in interrogations of people “who have something to do with illegal actions on the territory of Russia.” He singled out one man: William F. Browder.

It's unclear, however, under what circumstances the US would find themselves interviewing Browder, given, as he himself points out, he doesn't actually live there. Most peculiar and not very comfortable for Browder, given his recent (brief) arrest in Spain as a result of a spurious international arrest warrant issued by Russia.

Talking of being helpful, is it not slightly odd that - given that she has known Jeremy Corbyn for around half their respective lives - the MP for Barking only seems to have discovered that he is an anti-Semite this week? I mean, perish the thought that the whole thing was staged or anything

I'm on the e-mail notification list for written statements submitted by MPs daily (when they're sitting) from the Parliamentary website (and other information too).
Is there any particular significance in the statement filed today posted below, please? I need help understanding it.
I've not posted the entire written statement submitted today by Penny Mordaunt (Tory minister for International Development) but it's not long at all. The link is posted below too.

Quote:
Written statement
Made by: Penny Mordaunt (Secretary of State for International Development)
Made on: 18 July 2018

Inter-American Investment Corporation - Escrow Account - HCWS870

This statement sets out the particulars of a short-term arrangement arising from the UK’s intention to become a member of the IIC (the private sector arm of the IADB Group) through the transfer of up to US$6.98m of UK resources already held in the IADB. These resources form part of a US$725m capital asset transfer from the IADB (of which the UK is a member) to the IIC, and will be temporarily held by the IADB in an escrow account while the UK’s membership goes through the ratification process and the Privileges and Immunities sections of the treaty are brought into UK and Scottish law.

Joining the IIC through capital asset transfer offers the opportunity, at no extra cost, to be part of an important organisation in the Latin America and Caribbean region, which will support economic growth and leverage further private sector resources for development financing, as part of the UK’s Prosperity agenda.

Employment and Support Allowance:Written statement

The Department has analysed the relationship between “official error” and section 27 of the Social Security Act 1998 in regulating how and to what extent arrears can be paid. As a result of the conclusions of this analysis, we will now be paying arrears to those affected back to their date of conversion to ESA

Thanks JA and A for various posts I haven't replied to because I don't feel qualified to ;-)

I'm not a Brexit obsessive (OK I probably am), but I do feel better informed on EU affairs than some other things....

@PaulfromYorkshire
My attention is consistently focused on Brexit these days, when I'm looking at political news. Going through my e-mail this morning, I happened upon Penny Mordaunt's (Tory minister for International Development) written statement published today. Written statements regularly appear and often don't get much publicity.

edited to fix my grammar

#David Brindle

New @OBR_UK 50-year projection for social care spending (1.2% GDP rising to 1.9%) 'a pressure but not overwhelmingly scary' - NHS boss Simon Stevens to @CommonsPAC

Without the consideration of cost saving facillitations.

A years "worth" equivalent to about eight weeks otherwise, leading to independence, participation, continued work, otherwise hospital based treatments etc etc,in our case Not "difficult" IMHO.

Salient point, viewing sickness/disability as a cost to be curtailed leads to far more cost, just ask Esther.

According to the ONS
Quote:
Households (10%) without internet access
Of those without internet access, 64% felt they didn’t need the internet as it was regarded as not useful or interesting.
A further 20% felt they lacked skills and 12% reported that they had access to the internet elsewhere.

Some further thoughts of mine...
Those relying on Internet access exclusively from their mobile phones is worrying.
What happens when pay-as-you-go mobile phone users run out of money?
