1. We are committed to there being no change to the current border arrangements between ROI and NI
2. The UK will not be remaining within the CU or the SM
3. The UK will not accept NI remaining within the CU or the SM without us
4. We demand that somebody else sort this out.

So that's what we're getting from our supposedly Rolls-Royce civil service: if we are hit by a "no deal" scenario, "not everything will be perfect" and "we shouldn't assume it will be smooth"

After the recent Chequers gathering, Johnson said that accepting May’s Brexit deal would be like “polishing a turd”. He has a point. It’s now painfully clear that whatever agreement is reached, it will satisfy few leave or remain voters. What Johnson does not acknowledge is that it is his turd. If he is incapable of clearing up after himself, the least he can do is not blame the stench on others.
