Morning all.

Oh, and bye...off to the library for another lot of local history searching...another article finished the other day about a local councillor and philanthropist which turned out to be far more interesting than I realised at first.
If I'm not here, then I'll be in the library. Or the other library.

(THREAD) So what happens now that Michael Cohen's attorney, Lanny Davis, has said on MSNBC that Cohen will tell Mueller (a) Trump colluded with the Russians, and (b) his collusion involved knowing about Russian hacking *in advance*? I'll break it down. Hope you'll read and share.

He'll retract ???

Plutocrats come to London to libel their critics ... one thing the US does better ?

"" He added: “Advocacy on issues of public interest has the capacity to inform public debate “and thereby furthers the purposes of the First Amendment, regardless of the citizenship or residency of the speakers.”

The ruling leaned heavily on anti-SLAPP laws, which prevent wealthy plaintiffs from using the courts to silence their critics. Mr Epstein was carefully to say, however, that the decision offered no ruling as to whether the claims in the dossier – including that an Alfa intermediary delivered “illicit cash” to Mr Putin while he was deputy mayor of Saint Petersburg – were true or false. There seems to be a question mark over whether a sitting President can be indicted, possibly on account of it not being a real likelihood before and thus being an untested part of the US constitution.

The momentum towards impeachment is growing, though, so we should get a good indication over the coming weeks as to whether the Republican party is going to stick with Trump or dump him.

From what I understand, the run up to the midterms in America is going to see a steady drip...drip...drip of sentencing hearings for those who've pleaded or been found guilty, and that means a drip of more plea bargains and more for them to spill along the way. These really should be damaging for the republicans in November but...

None of the senate projections on 270 To Win give the dems any hope of reaching more than about 52 (including Sanders and King), although the projections on there won't have caught up with the last few days yet. The house projections all suggest that Democrats could take a majority although they'd need to win well into the contested 'toss up' districts.

In some ways, the most promising thing I've seen about the elections is that in the run up to 2016 the press ignored the fact that Republican turnout in primaries was at a remarkably high level. This year it hasn't been, but Democrat turnout in the primaries really has.

The fun and games point I can't help making is that I haven't read anything at all about Pence lately. I strongly suspect that Trump is a narcissistic arsehole who won't shift come what may, but if there is a real feeling that his supporters in the Senate might desert him, and if Pence is going to turn out to be quietly involved in what's been going on, there is a chance that they could go sooner rather than later, and before the next Congress sits in January, because the Speaker of the House is next in line after the VP and they'd rather have President Ryan take charge than President Pelosi.
I still believe in a town called Hope
