Lovely piece, on remarkable teachers + —

“”“Betsy DeVos is trying to get the Fed government to pay for GUNS for teachers,” my grandma texted me recently. “How insane is that?”

I shared with her that secretary of education DeVos, who would begrudge dollars to public schools and predatory-loan forgiveness to defrauded college students, reportedly owns ten yachts. Someone recently untied one of them, valued at $40 million, from an Ohio dock, setting it adrift on Lake Erie.

“Too bad she wasn’t in it,” Grandma texted back.

The privatization DeVos seeks at the federal level began in my home state years ago. School districts sued the state in 1999 and 2010 for failing to provide adequate funding, the Kansas supreme court repeatedly ruled in their favor, and legislators refused to comply – a constitutional crisis that Democrats and moderate Republicans have fought to resolve by ousting conservative representatives.

Those who profit from the dismantling of public schools do so not just with tax dollars funneled into private school vouchers but with their control over information and ideas. One of the most overlooked threats to democracy is classroom curricula shaped by private interests for their own political, ideological and financial benefit.”

The very opposite of what should happen - nailed on recession otherwise.

Maybe he ought to talk to Alistair Darling about what he did to mitigate the banking crisis.

If I were a hedgehog I'd look just like that as I just found a massive juicy slug under my kitchen sponge.

We rescued one when I was a kid that we found at the edge of the road looking a bit worse for wear. It made a remarkable recovery and provided considerable amusement as our stupid cats never learned that trying to bat it around with their paws caused them pain. We were told releasing it near where we found it was best, but as that was between a road and a railway line we decided to take it out into the countryside. Harry, he was called. We weren't very imaginative in the Seventies.

Sorry, I thought Question Time might be back on due to parliament being back but it's not so I'm at a bit of a loose end.

Didn't realise so easy."Curtsyton" it is.

I meant a hedgehog by the way, we didn't rescue a slug.

As for my present slug visitor I'm just going to leave it alone, I think it's asleep and that sponge should have been chucked out ages ago as it's falling to bits. But being a single bloke I like to make things like kitchen sponges last about 10 years.

Yeah because you've not bothered to get it fixed. I bet it's either the fuse or the switch, both of which you could replace for a couple of quid you skinflint.

Anyway I feel we are moving away from politics here.

Do you think Jeremy Corbyn could fix his own oven?

It's the fuse, but for some reason linked with extension behind the main part of oven,I could take it apart and replace, the difficult bit being putting back on correctly,it would be upside down or something.

Oh I see, the best I could do was 'Scrunty to' which I'm 100% sure is wrong.

If indeed "Curtsyton" was what I was meant to be looking at you cryptic bastard.

As for this place, it could do with a new name and a bit of redecoration.

Maybe some dancing girls.
