A radical blueprint for a free trade deal between the UK and the US that would see the NHS opened to foreign competition, a bonfire of consumer and environmental regulations and freedom of movement between the two countries for workers, is to be launched by prominent Brexiters.

The Cato Institute in the US and Daniel Hannan's Initiative for Free Trade (the one that was forced to change its name from 'Institute' because that is reserved for actual research organisations and not just lobby groups) in the UK.

I liked this particularly

The IFT/Cato Institute free trade deal recognises that its proposals are likely to be unpopular. “Health services would benefit from foreign competition, although we recognise any change to existing regulations would be extremely controversial,” it says. It recommends testing the waters with foreign competition in education and legal services first.

Now that somebody in the MSM has broken the "omerta" on this, hopefully a few others will follow.

Amazing how many in the media still "think" that. Or perhaps not.....

Even three decades ago in my student days the RCP were considered a bunch of weirdos, they stood in a few seats come the 1987 GE as Red Front - invariably polling a derisory vote. Their candidate in my patch (Newcastle Central) spent most of the university hustings ranting about Pol Pot

I think it's become more obvious over the past couple of years where their true sympathies lie - having an almost daily column (writing the same article) for The Spectator as Brendan O'Neill does...and people begin to notice.

Firstly I lost about 50% of the people I follow - they simply disappeared. And even when I go and Follow them again...the next day they're gone again.

Really infuriating but I can't see what's wrong. Any ideas?

That's an odd one, though I think Twitter can be prone to such glitches. If you tend to remain signed in, might be worth logging out and sign in again. Sometimes glitches just fix themselves. Or your account may have been hacked, but that seems unlikely.

If I (finally) get a position with the OU I'm going to set up a new account under my real name and move a lot of the related Follows across and leave the ROT one for edu and politics stuff.

The proposals are sketchy but I'm concerned.

Sounds like they may be acceptable to Arlene Foster, but surely then not to Sinn Fein et al.

I expect them both to be of at least a little consequence.

The source added that Starmer’s team had subsequently worked closely with Corbyn’s office.
A source close to Starmer admitted that the meeting had been robust but insisted that he had not been close to resignation.

Yes! There was also an interview with a LibDem conference attendee who, when asked if Vince Cable was cutting the mustard, said, "Yes. I've heard him say things that other leaders don't say."
