Found it :-)
The death of consensus: how conflict came back to politics
New Labour’s ‘third way’ promised to end the clash between left and right. But did the fantasy of politics without strife create our age of anger?

I've not defrosted the freezer yet
I haven't read the Rayner interview either
I've met her once briefly; I enjoyed speaking with her

Alternative translation - "I believe in party democracy"?
Alternative meaning - "Why bother to have a ''leader" at all, let's vote on everything ! "
(See the Politburo ...)

From Beckett:
"For the many voters who dislike confrontation and feel that democracy should be about dialogue and compromise, the new political disorder is frightening."
(cJA edit)
I agree with this wholeheartedly.

Beat you !
I also looked on the frontpage, a waste of time! Found it by searching "Andy Beckett's "long read" in the Graun" , which came up with his page.

I note that the ST is still confused about the school system in England...

Just four in ten students at the top universities of Oxford, Cambridge and Imperial College went to comprehensives, academies and other mainly non-selective schools, according to findings to be published tomorrow in The Sunday Times Good University Guide
Academies can be either comprehensives (the vast majority) or selective grammars.

That sentence simply makes no sense.

Whether it's not there or not, much/most of the time you don't need to type anything, just select the phrase concerned and rightclick on it. The search opens itself.

That's with Chrome, others differ ?

Hmmm...Just got in and it's 14.5 degrees in here, I think it may be time to put the heating on without being a massive wuss or irresponsible waster of Gaia's resources.

My awesome cardigan is no match for this kind of temperature.

Anyway woke up this morning to sounds of Corbyn being forced to accept the fact that 97% of his fanbase wanted a 'people's vote', so I lay back in bed and waited for the inevitable backlash from his mates and within half an hour we had Len McCluskey poo pooing the whole thing then a bunch of other Labour non entities trying to claim it would be a gift to the far right.

What the fuck? Brexit has already been a fucking gift to the far right, and not just them but every other racist idiot who previously would have remained quiet but is now emboldened to express their view in public.

I'd like to take Corbyn around Yorkshire for a day on the bus to hear the kind of shit I hear from the denizens of 'gods own county'.

Democracy is fine as long as half of those voting aren't ignorant morons who refuse to learn anything from anything.

I don't know what to do about this.

Nobody does.

It'll probably be the death of humanity.

Actually what will be the death of humanity is rich fuckwits in Silicon valley having access to treatments and implants and becoming even bigger dicks than they already are. Then we have the first AI then almost instantly we end.

All that's left is to get drunk and stoned and hide in music and books or any other form of escapism that tickles your fancy.

Or just carry on regardless.
