On the same day that a new "centrist" think tank is launched.

Maybe they (especially their mentor Chuka, happy 40th birthday today) will take note of the above......or perhaps not.

I was up and about extremely early and then asleep again,
so missed the Humphrys 'Special' , from the LT --

BobbyEwing @ RClayton

I was (yet again) shocked by Humphrys questioning, not sharp not educated, lacking knowledge but blustering and condescending and downright lying about the backstop text "haven't we moved on from all that"!! Jesus. Loved when the Tanaiste took him apart clinically and cheerfully accused him of being a spokesperson for Boris. Spot on.

MaxZ0rin @ BobbyEwing
Humphrys is bloody awful, isn’t it. The Starmer interview was just painful, he always comes across as slightly demented when talking about Brexit. How the Beeb can continue to say he’s impartial on the subject is beyond belief.

Good morfternoon.

Theresa May has dropped the irritating "our" United Kingdom thing. Today we're back to being "the" United Kingdom.

There were questions on Twitter yesterday as to where their funding is coming from. They seem to have missed that off their website

Excellent news, let's now look into the background of the judge who gave those ridiculously draconian sentences in the first place shall we?

Off topic.
The ECB are feeling defensive. They’ve put out a statement about the weather. “In respect of touring Sri Lanka at this time of year,” it begins, stiffly, “the Future Tours Programme is congested involving 13 Boards whose schedules all interconnect, so there are unfortunately a number of tours that have to take place outside prime match-staging periods.”

You can say that again.

Today
Employment & Support Allowance: Written statement - HCWS1017 Department for Work and Pensions - Sarah Newton Minister of State for Disabled People, Health & Work

This Written Statement is a further update to the House on progress in correcting historic ESA underpayments and paying arrears.

The Department began work to assess cases in December 2017. For that stage of the exercise we expect to review around 320,000 cases, of which around 105,000 are likely to be due arrears. We now have a team of over 400 staff working through these cases and have paid around £120m in arrears. We expect to complete the vast majority of this part of the exercise by April 2019, and have to date completed all cases where an individual is terminally ill and responded to the review, thereby ensuring they receive due priority.

The announcement in July, to pay cases back to the point of conversion requires us to review an additional 250,000 cases, of which we estimate around 75,000 could be due arrears. We will undertake this work through the course of 2019. We now have a team of over 400 staff working through these cases, with a further 400 due to join the team through October and November, and will be assigning more staff to review the additional 250,000 cases. This will enable us to complete this important activity at pace.
---
There are currently around 2.3million working-age people on Employment and Support Allowance. In 2018/19 £54 billion will be been spent on benefits to support disabled people and people with health conditions this year which is over 6% of all Government spending and a record high.

https://www.parliament.uk/business/publ ... 7/HCWS1017" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
(cJA emphasis)

So far, over a hundred of thousand disabled people wrongfully denied their legal entitlements amounting to £120m to date!
How many terminally ill didn't get a chance responding?
Does that 'record high' government spend include any government legal costs trying to get out of their obligations?
It's going to take more than a year, according to this government minister, fixing further problems

Jeremy Corbyn is facing an explosive claim that he congratulated the Leave campaign on its “good work” during the referendum, while publicly opposing Brexit.
Matthew Elliot is probably not the most trustworthy of sources (especially if Vince Cable seems to suddenly find him so)

Even if it's true, Corbyn was doing good publicly in a way that got Labour's vote out for Remain and bad privately in a way that had no effect. Was he just fooling us? We are what we pretend to be...

SO, we're kicking the can down the road, seems to be the plan, except it isn't because it will come only with a fully nailed down and signed off withdrawal agreement that confirms indefinite arrangements for Northern Ireland, because it will cost us a lot more money, and because we still exactly where we are in terms of longer term trade (and so on) agreements - four freedoms and so on. So I suppose the question is have the extremists in May's party and the DUP had enough?

Damien Green says the extra year of transition would “solve some problems but not others,” adding that “there are two big problems.” Green says the Irish backstop issue still does not go away and the UK could have to pay the EU an extra year of contributions to the bloc’s budget.
If even May loyalist Green is talking this down then we may be on course to just give up now and crash out.

I'm sure we have. I get a bit faddy with these things, I listened to about the first 40 or so episodes of Night Vale and then let it drift, but I still have it all and am still getting new ones.
