Hammond is now having a row with the committee about how long the session is going on for. He says he was told he would be here for two hours. Nicky Morgan, the chair, says she did not agree a time limit. She says it is important for democracy that he answers questions from the committee. Hammond says he will stay until the questions are finished, but this will colour his view when invited to appear again, he says. (Politics Live, Guardian)
Rattled?

Edited to add -

I hope he claims the overtime.

Or was it just another of his famous jokes?

6:55...caught in rush hour traffic by the time she finally left.

Dinner wasn't too burnt...

And there was me thinking that Quentin Letts would be following this debate that he was so anxious to start and then tweet about it...

" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

But no...not a peep since it began at 6pm - only 40 minutes after his usual snide dig at Bercow brought Letts' obedient followers out.

35 years ago today I was sitting in a cinema watching a film with a girl I'd asked out that afternoon for the first time...I do get to see her occasionally these days...amazing how quickly time passes...

Q: Can you remember what child benefit was in 2010?

No, says Hammond.

McGovern says it was £20.30. Now it is £20.70. That is a real terms reduction.

Hammond says, once the benefit freeze is over, benefits will start going up again.

He says the benefit freeze is a one-off correction of a gross distortion of spending introduced by the last Labour government. Welfare spending rose in a way that was unsustainable.
£20/week in real terms was unsustainable. 'gross distortion'.
Did Osborne ever say anything quite as blunt as that?
