Somebody forgot the PTO ! :-)

Not sure if I agree on his take on the Welsh miners and the General Strike, but here's a snippet on the Tories' record of irresponsibility, and a wide-ranging one around 1918 --

Neil Ascherson , still going !!

” Britain’s problems in the early 1920s might seem trivial compared with the gigantic triple crisis that had loomed in 1914. Then, organised labour was preparing a combined assault on private capitalism. Rising suffragette militancy was wrecking government authority.

Finally, and worst, the Conservative opposition was arming Ulster Protestants to resist home rule for Ireland. Incredible as it now seems, Tory leaders were ready to unleash Irish civil war in order to destroy the Liberal government in London. As in today’s Brexit deadlock, the main parties at Westminster were hopelessly split and parliament faced a crisis too vast for it to manage. Only the outbreak of war in August had saved the UK in a recognisable shape.

The war, like a tsunami, tumbled all three challenges about. When the flood withdrew, they all emerged again, still recognisable but now separately manageable. War production, coupled with the surge of unskilled workers into armaments and shipbuilding, had led to conflicts but also to forced cooperation. A tougher, more experienced race of militant shop stewards came forward in 1918.”

In Arizona Senate race, Democrat expands lead as vote count continues
The US election continues. Although unlikely, it's still possible the Republicans may end up no better off than they are now in the Senate. At best the Republicans will be ahead 54 - 46. At worst they'll be 51 - 49. America's voting system is likely to come under scrutiny either way.
Nah, 52-48 is the worst the GOP can do now - only Arizona and Florida remain undecided, and unfortunately it still looks like Scott will *just* win the latter.
Arizona is looking pretty good for the Democrats - she is at least maintaining her lead as counting continues.

Florida is looking interesting. One very heavily democrat county with a big electorate - tens of thousands - appears to have massively undervoted on the senate race - in other words an awful lot more people there voted for the Governor, and even for the Commissioner of Agrictulture for the state than voted for a senator. It looks, on the face of it, like the County's votes for senate just haven't been counted yet - and that makes it a real possible. There are 26,000 odd fewer votes cast in that one county in the senate race, and Scott's state-wide lead is about 15,000. This also means that recount might not help the Dem Governor candidate as much as it helps the Senate candidate, mind.

The third is Mississippi (yes, yes, I spoke the letters out whilst I typed it) and whilst strictly speaking there is no result yet, they are one of the states that has 'open elections' with multiple candidates from the parties but demands that to win a candiate polls over 50% or the race goes to a top-two run off, and the combined vote share of the first round is 58R / 42D - so I"m not going to argue with you about that one :)

There's a 'diagrammatic representation' of the interesting Florida county here - the other outlier is a tiny county, with a vote discrepancy small in numbers but big in percentage terms.

In other 'who'd have thought it' news, having watched the election of a Democrat Governor, the Republican controlled congress in Wisconsin appear to have realised that now is the time to cut the Governor's powers. North Carolina did a very similar thing in very similar circumstances a few years ago.

I did love lying in bed this morning listening to Emily Thornberry telling us that when Jeremy Corbyn said 'no' he actually meant 'yes'.

Don't pay any attention to the geriatric old fool she almost said.

And it works doesn't it?

None of us have the faintest fucking idea what Labour's Brexit policy really is because neither do they.

Corbyn might want one thing but the people who support him want something completely different.

As do the Unions.

Someone should have a word with him.

What we want is another vote.

A vote where everyone has had a chance to consider the evidence, a vote where the arguments made to Remain aren't made by Tory fuckwits, a vote where it's made abundantly clear to the people who mostly voted leave that they have by far the most to lose.

That's what we want Mr Corbyn.

We really should try to get along, despite the fact we hate each other.

Admit it.
