I don't make a general rule of quoting GOP senators, but Rand Paul's tweet about John Bolton is genuinely one of the funniest things I have seen this year :D

Well, we haven't got a functional kitchen light right now - strip changed, starter changed - still nothing. A NY problem...

Mary Beard on the thorny issue of democracy and that 'will of the people'

https://www.the-tls.co.uk/loose-talk-democracy/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
That partly explains my irritation with the objections to a second referendum. The ‘people’s vote’ may not be the best way out of current difficulties, and it certainly may not break the impasse we are in. But it is hard to see on what grounds it is “anti-democratic”. “The people have spoken” is no reason for the people not to speak again (especially when none of us knew what we were voting for first time round). The ancient Athenians were happy to change their minds (within a day on one occasion) and they were well aware of the importance of an informed electorate. For them voting in ignorance could not count as democratic.

The oven was not only on (though admittedly I initially set the timer for a minute rather than an hour) but the nut roast is now complete.
