Thanks for the link.

Not the best piece IMHO. Just rehashing stuff you can read elsewhere and no fact checking, or even rehashing of fact checking you can find elsewhere.

This is no way to live. The turmoil, price hikes and confusion caused by Tory government in order to protect and promote Tory government are unacceptable. Government don't care about their nation or most of the citizens they share nationality with.

I've greater respect for Fidel Castro
I can't condone his violence
He managed ensuring a lot of Cuban nationals had a better standard of living than what most had prior his leadership
A violent dictator managed a nation and people better than Tory government

Actually the blog the Groan has drawn from is a much better read and more accurate on Corbyn's stated views.

I thought of Castro while pondering historical examples of outrageous nationalist leadership
Do they ever succeed at anything other than violence, despair and fear

How rail fares outpaced inflation measures
Cumulative changes since 1995
CPI inflation: 62%

In a sheepish private message to the BBC a few days after their botched general election campaign of 2017, the Conservatives asked the corporation to simply ignore the fact that Theresa May had made a specific election promise to those millions of pensioners that they would continue to have a free TV licence. The Tories’ manifesto had stated: “We will maintain all other pensioner benefits including free bus passes, eye tests, prescriptions and TV licences, for the duration of this parliament.” The Conservatives told the BBC they had made a mistake by promising free licences until 2022, and insisted the BBC had the power to abandon them in 2020, thus overriding their election pledge. Even now, a year and a half on, the party has not levelled with the British public.

And given that Tories rely so much on their strong support amongst older voters, this is potentially a pretty big deal.

Merry Christmas and a Happy new year everyone, bit late I know but I hope you all enjoyed yourselves and got what you wanted from Santa.

After sharing 9 bottles of wine with my Dad and brother I let down the family by passing out on my stool and collapsing into the pub Christmas tree which was apparently hilarious.

I was up at my folks place over the festive period and despite them living in one of the largest collections of human habitation in Northumberland (a veritable border metropolis) their internet was shocking. They have Sky through the phone line (no cable available) and I had to keep resetting the router every morning as it had slowed to a crawl. My Dad actually thought that was the speed it was supposed to be going because all he uses it for is downloading programmes to his Sky box, and he thought it taking hours was normal.

I used to go out with a Swedish girl from a town of about 1000 people in the middle of fucking nowhere and they had 2 gig fibre optic nigh on ten years ago.

This really is a cheap and shabby country.

Not everything's shit though.

On the train down today across the table from me was a Nigerian woman with her young daughter.

And the daughter sang. She sang quietly to herself but I could hear it and it was beautiful. From the words I could make out they were Christian songs and quite repetetive so I'm presuming she learned them at school, she could only have been about 7 or 8.

Eventually I did speak to her Mum and they were going to York to live in a flat provided by a charity, apparently where they'd been in Newcastle had been damp and full of cockroaches.

Sometimes speaking to people much worse off than you can put things in perspective, there was me grumpy because I was hungover and tired and there was this girl singing beautifully despite having spent (I know not how long) in a roach infested shithole in Newcastle.
