Devastatingly correct analysis.

Though he might have mentioned the role of their LibDem "partners" in fully supporting such nonsense (even, on occasion, parroting the breathtakingly dishonest "maxed out the national credit card" soundbite) in the 2010-15 period, and thus giving it greater credibility with the voters than the Tories alone ever would have.

There's also no mention of the press and it's role in holding the government to account. How much was the Thatcher government reacting to the fact their economic policy wasnt working as opposed to the media pointing out it wasn't working? It's a subtle but important difference and could lead to the conclusion that the Tories haven't changed at all if you look at it less in terms of being practical about what works for the economy and more about what works in terms of getting re-elected and staying in power.

People have their "own ways"In lieu of valentine's,birthdays, etc I put kept "old "ones up during the period (both ways). Not least from answering the question who is the card from and varying reactions.I also put a well done card (for marathons).Such things keep me going.I have no idea if particularly healthy but it works for me.

President Trump took no questions on the lawn as he left the White House for weekend in Florida.
I can see "national emergency" being used for all kinds of "Is that the time - I really must be going" excuses to leave early...even Ann Coulter's having a pop at him. That's how bad it's got.

Joe Haines outlives her, something he is probably pleased about.

Just a single local council byelection yesterday:

Vale of Glamorgan - Tory hold with over 60 per cent of the vote, up nearly 20 points on 2017 when they held both seats in this ward against a strong Independent challenge; after the Tories won fairly comfortably in 2004 and 2008, an Independent took a seat from them in 2012 and their successor held the seat in a previous 2016 byelection before being narrowly beaten the following year. Clearly a good result for the blue team, but it may in this instance be partly explainable by their candidate - none other than the former (until last summer) leader of the Welsh Conservatives, who (unusually) has entered local politics whilst still remaining an AM. Labour have been reasonably close here in some elections, but not in the last few and they dropped a few points to almost exactly 20% now - though that was enough to beat the Independent candidate (who had finished as the second placed Indy two years ago) as they dropped by significantly more.

Two contests next week.

Trump on declaring a National Emergency - "I didn't need to do this".

Perhaps there are advantages to having a president who juist knows that he is so intelligent he can talk off the cuff without having to think.

It was often stated I would be voting Tory by the time I was thirty, not that far from double that I won't do with double the determination.Often I would have /will gain by their policies in personal terms,no amount of free tobacco ,tea will ever convince me to change my mind.
