No-deal Brexit: should you buy your holiday money now?
With fears the pound could drop by 10%, the outlook is grim. Should we bank our euros early?

People in the USSR & eastern bloc were complicit - unwillingly, some even willingly- in the grand lie that their system & quality of life were superior. I always wondered how, but we see it happening in Brexit UK. Part of it is about developing a victim complex & external enemies

The continued acceptance of a truly atrocious healthcare system by Americans is another example. Its only possible by controlling the information people receive and how they receive it and by limiting the ability to directly compare with what happens elsewhere in the wider world. The fewer people able to travel to truly see life elsewhere, the easier it is to manipulate perceptions.

It seems that May has staved off any revolt for now by suggesting she might accept a short delay (maybe two months) to A50.

Nothing explicit and signed in blood (of course) but it does seem that things are moving that way simply through "force majeure".

Presumably May went to on to outline the steps she will take to resolve the impasse during those two months?

UN court rejects UK's claim of sovereignty over Chagos Islands

Judges advise Britain that separating archipelago from Mauritius in 1960s was wrong

Mauritius’s prime minister, Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, said: “This is a historic moment for Mauritius and all its people, including the Chagossians who were unconscionably removed from their homeland and prevented from returning for the last half century. Our territorial integrity will now be made complete, and when that occurs, the Chagossians and their descendants will finally be able to return home.”

So when did Sadiq Khan raise this with the Home Secretary?

https://www.thejc.com/news/home-secreta ... n-1.445289
The Home Secretary, Amber Rudd, has refused to close a legal loophole that allows demonstrations in support of the political wing of Hezbollah, while its military wing is banned.

The Mayor of London wrote to Ms Rudd after the Al Quds march in June to support Jewish organisations and others who were angered by Hezbollah flags on the streets of London.

A source close to Sadiq Khan said he is “extremely disappointed” that the Home Secretary has refused to act.

Independent Group rules out electing leader until end of year

A leader may not be elected to the newly formed Independent Group of MPs until the end of the year when it hopes to have become a political party. (Guardian)

^^^

Called "hedging one's bets" - just in case circumstances change quickly and they scuttle back to their former party. It'd be too embarrassing for a "party leader" to do that.

Devastated by rumours that Mark Hollis from Talk Talk has died.

Unimaginably ethereal music that helped shape me.
