Ha - no! Sky News reporting that lunch (which was, apparently, to feature the aforementioned comestible) has been cancelled as the talks have broken down. Although the love affair has survived, we're told.

In other news - it's pissing down here.

Some left wing defenders of Chris Williamson have been saying "who would you rather have on your side - him or Watson?"

I actually think most of the party will reply "neither".

Not another f-in banof(f)ee pie. Never had it myself, but it sounds revolting (however it's spelt\spelled).

Well this is a bit inconvenient for the "Referendum result was all about immigration" line...

UK migration: Rise in net migration from outside EU

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-47400679
Figures show 261,000 more non-EU citizens came to the UK than left in the year ending September 2018 - the highest since 2004.

In contrast, net migration from EU countries has continued to fall to a level last seen in 2009.
and
In December, the prime minister said the government was sticking to its longstanding ambition to bring net migration down to the "tens of thousands".

Anger and inequality make for a heady mix in Britain
For most UK families, the economic forecast is less certain but no less depressing
Significant, I think:

Chris Giles
@ChrisGiles_
A moment for me:

For years I've been correctly saying UK income inequality isn't rising.

The latest evidence suggests that is no longer true.

Low income growth and rising inequality doesn't add up to sunlit uplands in my book. My not so cheery column
The numbers are starting to reflect reality.

I've had my interview under caution, btw.

It seemed to go ok. Initial feedback from the council officer after the formal interview was concluded seemed positive. Thanks for all the advice and support. I'm pretty tired out from all the stress, though, and angry, too, that after finally getting a formal ASD diagnosis, instead of getting more support for our son, we got this.

I've had my first real insight into the future of education under the academy school system and it isn't pretty. Apparently in the information the school submitted for the referral, there was no mention (or certainly no highlighted mention) that my son had a diagnosis of ASD.....

It seems to be about whether the other parties that tend to go into coalition with Likud are concerned enough about the impact on their own vote to distance themselves, as far as I can tell. Certainly it doesn't appear to be enough to outright stop him running for a fourth term.

I follow some environment/conservation people on twitter, this is for anyone here who might have an interest, about Tony Juniper being nominated for chair of Natural England and appearing before the EFRA select committee.

The MPs were deeply unimpressive which will surprise nobody, see also btl.

The idea that someone should come into this role without any views on anything relevant to the job or without having previously supported any political party is preposterously stupid.
Quite.
