Hard to imagine the level of ignorance, cynicism and just utter nastiness behind it ,so I won't bother.

I don't see the distinction between pensioners and working age people. If certain conditions don't need as frequent retesting, that would apply to all ages.

This seems to be more about votes, not sensible policy, sucking up to pensioners and dumping on the working age poor yet again.

I made a promise to myself, given.it seriously makes me ill but for one thing it is an extra cost allowance, this goes counter to the whole underpinning philosophy before you get to blatant discrimination which itself is based on nonsense.

It is the devaluing of life according to your age, clear concise no matter that.contribition has absolutely nothing to do with it.

Ms Rudd will say in a speech to disability charity Scope: “Disabled pensioners have paid into our system for their whole lives and deserve the full support of the State when they need it most.
And what about the people who are trying to pay into the system but face higher costs to get into work than non-disabled people? If PIP is supposed to reflect the higher cost of living with a disability, that cost doesn't suddenly appear when you retire. It's a conflation of ideas and benefits. And a stark contrast with those who saw their ESA reduced by £30 a week, despite paying NI over many years in a lot of cases and despite the idea that NI is supposed to be insurance against becoming too ill to work, as well as building entitlement to a pension. Which, of course, young people don't expect to see themselves, despite paying for the current generation, because that's the way it seems to be going.

As I said totally against the whole basis of an extra cost allowance, you could have course contributed zilch,it's cynical vile piffle.

I like the contributory principle, but only in terms of entitlement to more than you need. There should be a baseline of a basic standard of living that everyone is entitled to on the basis of being a human being. I worry about the abolition of the pension credit, for instance. What does this mean for anyone who doesn't build up enough contributions to qualify for a full pension?

I am totally in agreement with the contribution principle they have reduced it systematically, conveniently and totally irrelevantly they are using it no matter that just because you reach a certain age means absolutely nothing as far at that goes.It is actually fascistic in this context to cite it.

Some comments from long term Clintonista over the pond, Brad de Long:

"the world appears to be more like what lefties thought it was than what I did for the past 10-15 years"

"the baton rightly passes to them - we are still here, but it is not our time to lead"

Of course there are plenty of US centrists still in denial too - but when did you last hear anything so refreshingly honest from a UK based "establishment" commentator? Many are still in the mindset that they would rather burn everything to the ground than admit they were wrong about anything in any significant way

PIP has never been contribution based, has it? Or means tested or an out of work benefit. It's strictly for disabled people to reduce the inequality they face in everyday life, right? I think if Rudd tries to apply different rules to different people purely based on age, she'll likely end up back in court as we have seen over and over again.

It is a proxy for necessary extra costs,a sort of mini personal budget and vast cost saving.Non means tested,I have equally disdain for those who want to.The costs exist regardless of situation. It's fundamental basis and philosophy has been transgressed by Rudd and her ignorance,or her assumed ignorance of others.

Re: Tuesaday 5th March 2019

Indeed it should be increased,if the extra costs we had had been covered we would have avoided means tested, and all the shittery that involved completely. For saving the State countless,I think that would have been reasonable.

Bercow allows emergency debate today on Grayling's Seaborne Freight contrac[sic]

John Bercow, the speaker, has just agree to a request from the SNP MP Alan Brown to allow an emergency debate on the Department of Transport’s Seaborne Freight contract (the no-deal contract for a ferry service with the firm that did not own any ferries). The debate will start shortly.

Bercow says he understands that Chris Grayling, the transport secretary, will speak in it.
