Alfie Stirling of the New Economics Foundation said: “The persistent increases to the personal allowance of income tax seen over the past decade represent one of the most expensive and regressive public spending initiatives of the 21st century so far. Costing more than the whole of defence, local government and the Department for Transport combined and enriching the highest income households almost seven times faster than the poorest.”

Marcus Fysh says there should be no fears about no-deal Brexit, saying he's been "working with HMRC to make a few tweaks" that would stop border chaos. Not sure this is 100% reassuring.
It must be difficult being an out and out Tory drone on these days when two Tories are trending for the wrong reasons...

Good-afternoon, everyone
Re: Monday 11th March 2019
Did we have this? I'd received the National Audit Office (NAO) notification in a recent e-mail though report is dated 5 March 2019NAO wrote:The Government Digital Service (GDS), part of the Cabinet Office, developed Verify to be the default way for people to prove their identities so they can access online government services securely. It originally intended for Verify to be largely self-funding by the end of March 2018. Government...continues to fund it centrally, although it announced... this would stop in March 2020.
GDS has significantly revised down its estimated financial benefits by over £650 million....Verify uses commercial providers to check people’s identities. GDS has reported a verification success rate of 48% at February 2019, against a projection of 90%.Universal Credit remains Verify’s biggest government customer in verifying claimants identities and remains the major constraint in closing Verify. However, most claimants cannot even use Verify to apply for Universal Credit: only 38% of Universal Credit claimants can successfully verify their identity online....- National Audit OfficeGDS will withdraw from its operational role running Verify from April 2020. GDS envisages that under a market-based model, departments will procure Verify’s services directly from commercial providers. This means departments that currently do not pay their full usage costs for Verify would have to in future.

May apparently wants to put off the meaningful vote *again* - but quite a few Tory MPs are now saying (and, importantly, in public) that this would not be acceptable.

While we wait for Theresa May’s statement in Strasbourg, here’s a take on Brexit from the former Australian prime minister, Kevin Rudd:
I’m struck, as the British parliament moves towards the endgame on Brexit, with the number of times Australia, Canada, New Zealand and India have been advanced by the Brexiteers in the public debate as magical alternatives to Britain’s current trade and investment relationship with the European Union. This is the nuttiest of the many nutty arguments that have emerged from the Land of Hope and Glory set now masquerading as the authentic standard-bearers of British patriotism. It’s utter bollocks.

No details of what this is, other than 'legally binding changes'. It looks like we're back to 'my way of the highway'.Lidington tells MPs the “improved deal” will be put before them at the meaningful vote tomorrow – and will be the “only deal” on offer.
