Good luck to Prime Minister David Lidington at the next European Council.

Twitter seems to think May is on her way out. The EU seems to think so too, judging by the short extension they have granted until April if May doesn't get the WA passed. This is clearly to give us time to put another PM in place to ask for a lengthy extension, before the cut off to take part in EU elections.

If we don't take advantage of either option, of passing the WA or asking for a longer extension, we will crash out with no deal but with only ourselves to blame. As expected the EU is unwilling to play the fall guy for the disaster capitalists who hope to profit from a no deal shock.

I think the EU's main consideration is still Ireland, no deal would be very, very bad for them.

Good morfternoon.

The Revoke petition seems to have broken down again - or else it hasn't attracted one single signature for some considerable time (which I think is unlikely). I pop in to check on progress from time to time.

Or parliament effectively takes control of the Brexit process from her (as almost happened a few weeks ago) leaving May - on Brexit at least - a figurehead.

(according to some interpretations, she is now rowing back on her previous implied resignation if we take part in the Euro elections)

The overall total of sigs seems to be updating regularly, but the constituency by constituency figures on the map appear to be stuck.

No, although there is a reasonable argument that she has at least come back this time with a markedly different and very unambiguous timetable. I really don't know, but I suspect that if Bercow wants somewhere to hang his hat on a decision to allow it to go ahead, that would do.

Urgent question on Brexit
In the Commons Matthew Pennycook, the shadow Brexit minister, is asking an urgent question on Brexit.
Kwasi Kwarteng, a junior Brexit minister, is responding.

Kwarteng is replying to Pennycook.
He says it is the government’s “full intention” to bring the meaningful vote to the house.
(But he does not say when.)
He ignores the rest of Pennycook’s questions.

Right at the end of the UQ Kwarteng says the statutory instrument changing the date of Brexit as set out in the EU Withdrawal Act will be laid on Monday or Tuesday next week.

He refused to answer the question about when the next meaningless vote would be several times before saying that it would be next week. It's all just absurd.

Quite apart from BBC bias (overt or otherwise) their long term tendency to dumb down their politics/current affairs coverage looks especially ill-starred right now.

Nigel Farage on #r4today unchallenged over his claim that "a very, very clear majority" now support No Deal. YouGov's poll yesterday showed Remain would beat No Deal 57 - 43. This man's lies have done enough damage to this country. We don't need any more of them now.

Donald Tusk says the Article 50 extension deal "means that until the 12 April anything is possible: a deal, a long extension, if the UK decided to rethink its strategy or revoke its strategy, or revoking Article 50, which is the prerogative of the UK government”.

She's in Cyprus on holiday at the moment, BBCNews talked to her there the other morning. Interviewer asked if she lived in Cyprus, not very subtly looking for an angle.

Though the individual seat totals have been updated - and only a literal handful of constituencies still have less than 1,000 signatures.

Guardian investigations editor, Nick Hopkins, has been passed a confidential Cabinet Office document that warns of a “critical three-month phase” after leaving the EU during which the whole planning operation could be overwhelmed.

The classified document sets out the command and control structures in Whitehall for coping with a no-deal departure and says government departments will have to firefight most problems for themselves – or risk a collapse of “Operation Yellowhammer”, the name for cross-government planning for a no-deal Brexit.

“The … structure will quickly fall if too many decisions are unnecessarily escalated to the top levels that could have reasonably been dealt with internally …” the document says. It also concedes there are “likely to be unforeseen issues and impacts” of a no-deal Brexit that Operation Yellowhammer has been unable to predict. (Politics Live, Guardian)
Edited to add link to full article -

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/20 ... eal-brexit

Surely an important part of the planning for a possible "No Deal Brexit" is to get rid of Chris Grayling. I mean, that could be done now in order to avoid problems further down the line. And I'm serious. To keep a proven idiot in post is irresponsible.
