I'm not sure how accurate the breakdowns in this tweet are, but it looks like almost half of Labour abstained on the revocation to avoid no deal, and some even voted against. I just can't fathom that. It doesn't prevent anything else happening, it just stops no deal. Why would anyone in Labour not support that?
Anyway, it's pretty obvious the Tories didn't engage in a proper spirit of compromise. We need to get the last vote (or no vote, depending on Bercow) on May's deal out of the way before we find out if any of them are willing to put the country first and find a way to not crash out on 12th April.

I assume that attaching a referendum to May's deal would satisfy Bercow, but could it happen?

Trusting to deadline pressure to build consensus for a way forward was a foolish gamble that has cost the government its control of Parliament, cost Parliament the trust of the public and finally looks to have cost the PM her job. Probably best not to try it again.

I imagine that would do the trick but I think it more likely the future declaration would be taken off, leaving just the WA, which is the only bit the EU needs agreed in order to ratify, if the bill is to be changed.gilsey wrote:Cherry was seen mouthing 'bloody Labour' as the result was announced. If May is able to get the numbers, though, it seems just as likely she would put a motion to disregard the rule in this specific case, which I would rather hope would pass, even if her deal subsequently doesn't, purely because we need to get it passed now to secure the May 22nd extension or get it off the table once and for all to have any chance of moving Tory MPs on to considering alternatives before the April 12th deadline.

Government confirms tomorrow's vote ended to ensure UK can still delay Brexit until 22 May
A spokesperson for Andrea Leadsom has confirmed that the motion being debated tomorrow will be designed to ensure that the UK can still get an article 50 extension until 22 May, in line with the conditions set by the EU at last week’s summit. The spokesperson said:
Tomorrow’s motion will need to be compliant with both the Speaker’s ruling and the EU council’s decision on conditionality relating to exit on 22 May. Discussions are ongoing and we will look to table the motion as soon as possible today, in order to avoid asking for another extension and the requirement to undertake European parliament elections.(Politics Live, Guardian)

Typical rubbish public sector...oh...In her final annual report, Dame Glenys Stacey said people would be "safer" if supervision of offenders in England and Wales was back in public ownership.
Probation services were part-privatised in 2014, allowing firms to monitor low and medium-risk offenders.
Justice Minister Rory Stewart accepted "the current model is not working".
Dame Glenys said eight out of the 10 firms inspected since January last year were rated "inadequate", while public services were performing better.

Well.
Somehow doubt the DUP and the ultras in the Tory party will go for it.
PTO!
So that could pave the way for a Customs Union arrangement vote but clearly not a second referendum.MPs will be asked to vote again on Brexit on Friday but only on part of the deal negotiated with the EU, MPs have been told.
They will vote on the withdrawal agreement negotiated with the EU - covering the divorce bill, citizens' rights and the Irish "backstop.
But the political declaration covering the UK's future relationship with the EU will not be put to the vote.
If MPs back it, the government says the UK will leave the EU on 22 May.
Commons Speaker John Bercow said it was a "new" motion and complied with his ruling that he would not allow a third "meaningful vote" on "substantially the same" motion as MPs had already rejected by historic margins twice.
Somehow doubt the DUP and the ultras in the Tory party will go for it.
