Thank you for your work.
Re-reading the thread, my posts read as though I'm arguing with you and others here. I'm not arguing. My writing doesn't convey a lot of what I'm trying to communicate.

I have a niggling worry over what might be planned for 11pm. Hopefully, they're not that efficient.

BBC news just had a bit from Leeds guaging the reaction to today's brexit events.

As they've already done the indoor market they presumably realised they should try somewhere else to find representative opinions and chose a golf club.

It's quite simple. They stand for the Union. They have essentially no other coherent policy. Foster has played a blinder. She got cash for the Union and now it's threatened she's against.

I would predict the DUP to do well in any forthcoming elections.
There is the 'Northern Industrial Town' argument about the DUP (and about NI politics generally) - that they are all pretty economically 'Labour' but everything else is distorted by secterianism and, with them particularly, protestant fundamentalism.

They might also be treating this as a last hurrah - SF came within about 800 first preference votes of them (out of 80,000ish) in the last Stormont elections (one reason why there haven't been any more) Stormont elections) - the long term demographic shift might well be around tipping point to the Nationalists in NI.

It's possible I guess, but as I said the ERG hardliners are powerless, it finally, after all this bloody time, no longer matters what they think.

Their only importance now is if they could be persuaded to vote for May's deal and even then it wouldn't be enough.

Deeming what proved to be a majorative voting view as unrepresentative is rather the reason why the result was surprising for some. When an opinion is offered on the matter in my environs, certainly work related, shall we say, barring me 100 % one way.

Watching Newsnight and listening to Rory Stewart it's almost tragic to remember this man was once respected for his independent intelligent thinking...then he became a Tory MP.

He reminds me of a guy I knew when I was a Lib-Dem who worked for Traveller's rights then became a GE candidate, next time I met him he'd become a pod person, it was as if his brain had been removed and replaced with a homunculus of Nick Clegg. A person who he'd previously despised. Once you get on the party career path your thoughts are no longer your own.

The prison warder mentality of some hospitals, certainly doesn't help, especially the visit time nonsense for the benefit of staff regardless of what they say, shared care the way to go.

Ok so let's look at the options as they stand.

No deal - Not in the interest of anyone involved so not going to happen*.

May's withdrawal agreement passing - She's squeezed the pips as hard as she can so not going to happen.

A consensus found through indicative votes - Rather likely given the results on Wednesday night.

May accepting and negotiating with the EU for said consensus - Not going to happen, it would rip the Tory party assunder and make her a pariah.

May resigns and lets someone grown up like Liddington do it instead - The Tory party rips itelf assunder again.

May resigns with the idea of calling a general election - Would enough of the Tory Party support that? It needs a two thirds majority.

Boris becomes Tory party leader and everyone breathes a sigh of relief - Because outside the Rotary clubs his popularity rivals that of gastoenteritis.

I'm sure I've missed a few.

*In a sane world.

Hindle,

I heard this on the radio earlier and I was raging.

They were saying they kept pointing out whenever they visited him he had pulled out his feeding tube but it took more than a week before anything was done.

It was his brother I heard interviewed and it was hearbreaking.

Would any of us be content with an apology if staff at a hospital have effectively starved our brother to death through inattention?

I am great advocate of shared care, the better hospitals were at least flexible or actively encouraged, meal times and showering/bath are the "biggies"Part of the admission process should be such a discussion IMHO.Mutual beneficent/respect/trust building;it shouldn't be a battle, too often is.

That's fair enough Hindle but this isn't a conversation about best practise.

They starved a man to death.

Literally didn't feed him for 10 days.

How the hell did that happen in an NHS hospital?

The excuse seems to be 'he had downs syndrome and pulled out his own feeding tubes' but plenty of elderly patients with dementia do the same and aren't left to starve to death.

I know we all want to stick up for the NHS whenever we can but this was indefensible.

Dominic Grieve loses confidence vote held by Beaconsfield Tories

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/20 ... eld-tories

Let the purge begin.

It's funny how the press went apeshit about entryism when it came to Corbyn but has been curiously silent about it when it's come to the so called party of government. The Labour party is a tough nut to crack via entryism given its numbers whereas the Tory Party have refused for years to let us know how many members they have. So everyone hovers around the 100,000 mark it was at last time they told us. With an average age of 72. We've seen Ukip taken over by the far right while the kippers they ousted are boasting about taking over the Tory party.

So a kind of wave of rightwing fuckwittery going from refugees to immigrants from one party to the next like a human centipede of everything that is hateful.
