I've spent over an hour attempting another view and I've failed.tinyclanger2 wrote:Tom Watson says a new referendum is the "only way" to reunite the country - but to my mind there is no realistic way to do so at this stage.
A combination of poor education, wilful ignorance, rabid hatred, a handful of powerful people who stand to gain from the chaos, 2000 years of believing the aristocrats and their bastard offspring know better than the rest of us, etc etc and the country is ****ed. Basically.
The silver lining can be the splitting of both Labour and Tories and pressure to get PR. Then we might, at some point, start settling down into a serious country again.
(Other views, as ever, are available).

Anyone here want to be an MP? Representing everyone honestly, transparently with unceasing diligence and working in the best interests of everyone isn't enough. I don't have the courage, stamina and general equanimity required withstanding chronic hostility, lies and intimidation from some media and people.

I think it's been said here before (most things have) but I can't help noticing the discrepancy between "the will of the people cannot be double-checked" despite a margin of less than 4% and "the will of the legal representatives of the people" can be quadruple-checked despite having overwhelmingly voted against your thing 3 time already.
What's that about?

Ah - I couldn't be sure, but thought it might be deliberate.

May said something to the effect that another referendum would damage people's faith in politicians and democracy. She's lingering in leadership and thinking about getting the House to vote on the withdrawal agreement a forth time. Discrepancy is a nice word describing May's reigntinyclanger2 wrote:I think it's been said here before (most things have) but I can't help noticing the discrepancy between "the will of the people cannot be double-checked" despite a margin of less than 4% and "the will of the legal representatives of the people" can be quadruple-checked despite having overwhelmingly voted against your thing 3 time already.

Thank goodness the most dictatorial executive in modern British history is also the most incompetent
MPs should be congratulated for seeing through the government’s cynical ruse today

The predicament the nation finds itself in is in part a consequence of the Fixed-term Parliaments Act 2011. This does not allow for the dissolution of parliament when a prime minister has been defeated on the government’s legislation.

Chris Grayling says that Theresa May's successor "must be a "Brexiteer" with experience."
He does know that we haven't done this before, doesn't he?
