On a cheery note, the Rwandan genocide kicked off 25 years ago today.

There has been speculation that MPs could force a vote to revoke article 50 entirely if the EU refuses another Brexit delay this week and a no-deal departure looms on Friday.

Andrea Leadsom said she would never agree to this, and that no deal would be manageable.

“It’s not nearly as grim as many would advocate,” she said. “The civil service have done an amazing job of ensuring that we minimise the problems. I’m not an advocate for no deal, but it would not be nearly as bad as many like to think it would be.”

Leadsom is about as credible as a Times headline

I wavered writing that word. I've confirmed the Sunday Times headline and article exists.

The Institute for Government
4 April 2019

According to the Government’s own research from February, over half of adults do not believe they will be affected by a no deal exit. At the end of February, only 20% of eligible businesses had registered for an EORI number which they will need to export goods if there is no deal. The Government considers this “one of the most basic and straightforward” parts of preparing for no deal, suggesting that many businesses have not yet even begun to contemplate the more complex aspects of no deal.
Leadsom's sanguine assessment isn't backed by any credible information

If the Brexit referendum had been a general election the Brexiteers would have been chucked out of office.

Journalist Peter Oborne, who voted #Leave, deserves praise for writing this piece. We should welcome and encourage people who do this.

Has Matt d’Ancona ever written about the 'the establishment class' before now or is this new for him? He's right it takes more than willpower to get results.

I'll never forget Peter Oborne on Question Time a few years ago extolling the virtues of Thatcher to an audience in Liverpool.

He seemed genuinely bewildered when they appeared less than enthusiastic while laughing and ended up slumped in his chair when reminded of 'managed decline'.

I thought at one point he was going to cry.

Which I say with no sense of triumphalism as he's one of the few right wing commentators with a semblance of decency.

Does it look like a somebody has dressed a distressed stick insect in expensive clothes that dont fit and only accentuate how awkward and alone one can be despite being bedecked in expensive baubles?
