"benefits for the additional cost of a disability and for carers, ensuring the government is supporting the most vulnerable."

Fuck all to do with vulnerability basic, additional cost exist regardless, patronising disingenuous bullshit, saving the State countless appropriated as if being generous, these cunts made a necessary room for care discretionary as to being subject to penalisation as but one example of too numerous to mentions.

There are various harmful consequences of the "vulnerable" line eg.having to play the sufficiently pathetic for fear of non support and not acknowledging need for support until too late at far more cost at best to name but two of the most obvious

No. I'm still a bit subdued over the Notre Dame fire. Strange how it's affected me. The Rennie Mackintosh fire\s had a similar effect but this one's a real blow - speaking as an atheist, too.

US Speaker Nancy Pelosi warns against weakening peace deal

US Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is due to begin an official visit to the Republic of Ireland later.

Speaking on the eve of her visit, she said there would be "no chance whatsoever" of a post-Brexit trade deal between the US and UK if there were any weakening of the Good Friday Agreement. (BBC News website)

Well it looks like the worst has been averted.

Maybe even more depressing than the fire was certain people using it to promote their all too obvious agendas.

"Trade with the United States: Council authorises negotiations on elimination of tariffs for industrial goods and on conformity assessment
"

The Council today approved mandates for the Commission to open negotiations with the United States on two agreements:

a trade agreement limited to the elimination of tariffs for industrial goods only, excluding agricultural products;an agreement on conformity assessment that would have as its objective the removal of non-tariff barriers, by making it easier for companies to prove their products meet technical requirements both in the EU and the US while maintaining a high level of protection in the EU.
....
....
The EU and the US have the largest and deepest bilateral trade and investment relationship in the world and have highly integrated economies. Both economies account together for about half the entire world GDP and for nearly one third of total world trade.
It's almost like they've tailored the wording for a specific audience..

Brexit talks with government are stalling, says Corbyn

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has said talks with the government are stalling due to a Tory desire for post-Brexit deregulation including pursuing a US trade deal, a sign that the cordial tone of the negotiations is faltering.

“The government doesn’t appear to be shifting the red lines because they’ve got a big pressure in the Tory party that actually wants to turn this country into a deregulated low-tax society which will do a deal with Trump. I don’t want to do that,” he said. (Guardian)

Court castigates Home Office over misuse of immigration law

The appeal court has issued a damning judgment criticising the Home Office’s use of a terrorism-related paragraph of immigration law as “legally flawed” and ruling it must be changed.

The Guardian has repeatedly highlighted the Home Office’s use of the rule – designed in part to tackle terrorism – to refuse applications from hundreds of people for making legal amendments to their tax records.

But the wider impact of the judgment is the court’s finding that the “general approach [by the home secretary, Sajid Javid] in all earnings discrepancy cases [has been] legally flawed” and must change. Criticism of the Home Office’s use of the clause has become part of the wider debate over the “hostile environment” and a target-based culture that also gave rise to the Windrush scandal. (Guardian)

Some suggestions that May will use the "threat" of Euro elections in a last ditch attempt to get her deal through the HoC.

This rather falls down on the fact that only the Tories are bothered about having them, plus the spectre of no deal has receded for now.

Evening all.

Apparently Labour are going to abolish SATs for 7 and 11 year olds.

The ones for 7 year olds are going anyway if and when they get the baseline test in but given the utter hash they made of it last time (allowing school to choose between three different companies which, and I know this will come as a shock, were found not to be comparable) it's a moot point as to whether we'll get that.

But as an accountability measure for primaries it might be the least worst option. It does force primary schools to get their pupils to learn the basics although the way that Gibb has meddled in this - more tests and ridiculous grammar bits - means that the current system needs changing.

The problem with getting rid of the tests at 7 is that there's still a considerable number of infants schools - how do you measure them?

I've seen some fairly ludicrous statements from people who should know better (although Mark Lehain is an out Tory) that "7 year olds don't even know they're doing a test"

Right, so stick this in front of them and they don't know they're doing a test?

I thought Andrew Rawnsley's article two days ago good explaining this.

I liked Corbyn's comments regarding the upcoming EU elections, nothing fearful or awkward.
