Our policies are highly redistributive – this year the lowest income households will receive over £4 in public spending for every £1 they pay in tax, while the highest income households will contribute over £5 in tax for every £1 they receive in public spending

The first flaws in the new immigration scheme for EU citizens who want to remain in the UK after Brexit have been exposed after a couple who live in Oxford were blocked from getting a flight back from Turkey to the UK.

EU settlement scheme doesn't work, say couple held at airport
I know something about UK Home Office procedure and requirements but I'm having difficulty keeping up.

Most of their likely supporters won't be bothered though. Its about feelings not facts.

Of course Marr is still a lightweight, though - and those mini-sermons at the start of his programme are incredibly jarring.

Well that is statistically correct, there are leave voters supporting the LibDems too.

But also, in practical terms, pretty meaningless.

I'm still pondering the conundrum of a political party fulminating about the alleged loss of democracy whilst not allowing people to become members and therefore to have any influence over the party's policies or even being able to change the leader.

It gets worse (it's from LBC via express, so already worse..), challenged by a caller on being dictatorial:

https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/11269 ... ection/amp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
He said: “You are going to be amazed by what I’m going to tell you now.
“This is going to be the most open political party you’ve ever seen in Britain.
“We are getting rid of those delegated layers that political parties have like national executive committees where everything tends to get lost and tied up.
“What I’m going to do, Mark, and we’ve discussed this with the board, is we are going to directly liaise and have votes amongst our registered supporters to shape policy and shape our future direction.
“I want this to be a really, really engaged group of people.
“There will be an online platform and we are going to consult them and we are going to produce policies on the basis of what our supporters think.

Wow.

Suella Braverman on Daily Politics.

I really wouldn't worry about Barry Gardiner. She made him look like an intellectual heavyweight. If she is the future of the Tory party they really are in trouble. I'm not sure who the political commenter on the right was, but he was very interesting and had no compunction in pulling her up in the most scathing manner. And I loved the dig about Boris Johnson trashing business. The "Labour is anti-business" attack line well and truly declawed.

I haven't watched Daily Politics for ages but I'm glad I caught the end of that. Martin Lewis is always interesting to listen to as well.

I got as far as catching sight of Suella Braverman and switched channels, so I missed it all. There's only so much a person can take. I didn't even stay for long enough to find out who the other guests were (presumably Martin Lewis was one of them).

Having just watched her, I can see why you turned off, but if you'd stuck with it I think you would have quite enjoyed her complete and utterly humiliation. I know I did. Just think of all the times you've sat quietly seething as a Tory MP gets away with absolute hysterical bollocks and then imagine someone coming along and batting their nonsense aside with the ease of swatting a fly. It was very satisfying.
