Strange lineup on sky news, was Sian Berry up against Elwood and Montgomerie, now swapped Berry for Gina Miller.

Oh yeah I forgot, European elections.
How are they going?
Labour would have won by a mile if they'd listened to their own members and voters rather than a tiny cabal of old Bennite trots and disaster Marxists.
Maybe they should think on that rather than blaming remainers for pretty much everything.

I predicted Labour could lose out to the Greens (although I never conceived by quite that much) but the Tories with no MEPs in the South West?!!! I said just 1 Tory would be bad. I never imagined they would get none....and with Ann Widdecombe topping the list they kind of didn't. It's like that bit in Animal Farm. The people looked from the Ukip/Brexits to the Tories and from the Tories to the Brexit/Ukips and no one could tell the difference any more (if they ever could in the first place).HindleA wrote:South West

It is the selfullfillers that need to take responsibility and stop blaming others.A noticeable increased vote for Brexit in Leeds by the way ,perhaps your Janet and John level of comprehension needs revisiting or Hartlepool voters were to blame,or something.

The difference is the Tories never made any effort to campaign for these elections, Labour did.
They tried to say if you don't vote for us Farage will win, and in the end in brexit terms the difference between Farage and Labour was negligible.

Or a noticeable decrease in the remain vote, I talked to the staff in my constituency on Thursday and they said it was the quietest election they'd had.HindleA wrote:A noticeable increased vote for Brexit in Leeds by the way

Brexit party - leave, no deal WTO termsThey tried to say if you don't vote for us Farage will win, and in the end in brexit terms the difference between Farage and Labour was negligible.
Labour - we will support a deal that keeps us withi the customs union as a way to deliver the referendum result, otherwise we need a general election, otherwise a further referendum (in the full and certain knowledge that the first two were never coming)
You are joining the campaign to let the leave campaign and the conservative party off the hook.

Conservative no-dealers will be emboldened. We are back to relying on 'moderate' conservative MPs bringing down their government.

Am I imagining things or have the Libdems been mostly benefiting at the expense of the Tories? The Brexit Party have shaved off a few extra Tory votes compared to Ukip last time around, but don't account for all of them.

I think the 'customs union' policy is ridiculous bit it was never ever going to go anywhere. Labour's policy to all intents and purposes was their final default, to argue for a further referendum, becuase the government would never concede the two things it asked for more. "In the end in brexit terms the difference between Farage and Labour was negligible" is utter bollocks.Sky'sGoneOut wrote:Brexit party - leave.

Heseltine this morning was making this point, the tory membership may be batshit crazy no deal brexiters but many of their voters are not. Which is why we had even Philip Hamond today not ruling out bringing down any future tory PM in a vote of no confidence if they try a no deal brexit.Willow904 wrote:Am I imagining things or have the Libdems been mostly benefiting at the expense of the Tories?

Tough election for
@Conservatives
, and we need to rapidly find a way forward. With 34.9% of voters voting for hard Brexit in a low turnout election (compared to the GE and referendum), we should be careful not to interpret this as a mandate for No Deal. #EUelections2019

So the good people of the North East have just voted in Brian Monteith as their Brexit MEP because they want out of the EU and want to stop Freedom of movement for all of us.
So they vote in a bloke who lives in the South of France.

Make no mistake, they have been *desperate* for Labour to take an outright pro-remain position so they can unite around portraying them as anti-democratic traitors.
I will admit that Labour's position has outlived its usefulness now, though. These results are simply a rather vivid confirmation of that.

I don't know about elsewhere, but there was no noticeable Labour EU election campaign where I am. I was complaining about it on Wednesday as I felt Claire Moody was receiving next to no help from the party in trying to retain her seat, in contrast to the efforts of the Green Party to get Molly Scott Cato re-elected.Sky'sGoneOut wrote:The difference is the Tories never made any effort to campaign for these elections, Labour did.

Maybe a slightly different angle. As I said yesterday (?) It would be relatively simple for a new Tory leader like Hunt to bring a WAB to the House that Labour has already agreed to in the "talks" .
I wonder if the rapid shift articulated by Thornberry is to avoid that possibility and allow Labour to call no confidence in whoever is selected.

Apparently Corbyn's only response to the EU election result so far has been a post on facebook.....
After everything, the Cambridge Analytica scandal, the strangely and illegally co-ordinated use of Aggregate IQ by all the leave campaigns, the dark money and Bannon/Mercer associations, all with facebook at the very heart of it....

Whatever your view, he is surely at least right that the reaction from Labour needs to be rather more than a shrug and more of the same, as has been the case of late.

It's in the clip I linked to. His choice of words for his response to the EU election results. It's just more of the same. He only mentions a referendum at all after being directly asked about one and only after he repeats the bit about a general election.

Re: Bank Holiday 25th, 26th & 27th May 2019.
I feel that Labour would have lost many of the Labour "outers" to the "Brexit" Party anyway. They have now lost the "remainers". I believe that a goodly proportion of the former will stay lost as long as the EU is an issue (unless the "Brexit" Party produces a manifesto which truthfully reflects their aims - and I wouldn't put money on the chances of that happening), and winning back the latter group will be very difficult - and may become impossible if Jeremy Corbyn doesn't act decisively, and soon. I know I've more or less given up on him. Especially after his comments today. He shows no sign of moving with the times - stuck, as he is, somewhere in the 1970s.

He is in the '70's; can't really argue with that.Expected continued amplified personality/person thing reverberation.Stepping outside for a nanosecond and reflect occasionally is a rare occurence.I couldn't give a flying hoo-hah as to particular figurehead.Obsession about personalities has inevitable consequences. The so called transformation is hyperbolic temporal piffle beyond the rhetoric and radical imaginary.

A return to some '70's cross party consensual thinking would be good (or more correctly effective policies that match the words). Can you imagine a plethora of bespoke benefit and welfare introductions/expansions from naught, rather than being targeted for reductions/removals/presented as burdensome/unfair

One question the "evil Thatch put X million on the not sick on sickness benefits"never answer (rather than purposeful expansion of legacy to attend to deinstitutionalism (pre DLA a necessity)never answer is to account for the numbers not going down.So are people that shouldn't be on them or not or mysteriously dependent on which Party is in Government?
