I find it baffling that someone can look at Johnson's hopeless record at the FCO and conclude that he would be an excellent PM.

But then this is Truss we're talking about here...

I was thinking the same myself until I remembered how surprised everyone seemed to be that Theresa May was utterly incompetent, despite all the evidence from her stint as Home Secretary.

About the only thing you can say in favour of May is that she's reasonably dignified in public, if ABdPJ gets in we won't even have that.

When you are in a Cabinet position, you can blame things going wrong on the person at the top - as PM there is nowhere to hide however.

There are going to be a lot of people to blame. May for bringing us to this point instead of doing it differently earlier. Parliament for getting in the way. The Civil Service for taking control of May. Europe for not giving us what we want. Labour just because.

Oh of course, to the true believers Brexit can never fail - just be failed.

I have asked many MPs present if they have any second thoughts about turning the country into an international embarrassment.

The consensus view is that they are “saving the country from embarrassment.”

Genuinely horrific creature, any Tory MP who votes for her needs looking at.

Apparently she suggested that it was a waste of overseas aid on a poorly designed airport.

It seems the airport is actually ok. But the absurd thing is that St Helena is of course a British colony!

Didn't convince me.

Yet I can't see Boris Johnson being willing to take on the work of running a minority government. Obviously it would be better for the Tories to go to the country after successfully delivering Brexit, but can it be done with the current hung parliament? And before the honeymoon period is over and everyone starts noticing he's lazy and useless?

Really? It's a difficult question but I tend to think that at the very least these fucking idiots believe what they say, however ludicrous what they say is. I know it doesn't make any practical difference but if one of them (and it does seem overwhelmingly likely to be him) comes to power saying 'obviously I've been wrong about all of this all of this time' I think it will be time to start a major campaign about turning up and shouting filthy abuse at them whenever they appear in public.

The liberal-left's enthusiasm for patrician Tory Rory Stewart is strange. I can't help but think this is about some quiet longing among the intelligentsia to be ruled by aristocrats / the upper-middle-classes. This oh-so-smart former colonial governor, he'll sort us out. Creepy!

And there was me thinking the other choices were one of either dim, vile, useless, or dangerous. By contrast RS seems relatively normal.

I wonder when Spiked are going to come out and say that Boris is their choice for PM?

I'm watching the Press Preview (Sky News).

According to the Times, Boris Johnson has privately assured "Brexiters" that he could suspend Parliament to force through no-deal. (That, despite the Telegraph saying that a leaked document states that we are nowhere near prepared for a no-deal exit in October.)

This may have been answered already but does the PM have the power to suspend Parliament?

I would have thought that was in the hands of the Speaker.
