Cynical attempt to appeal to the "blue rinse" demographic?
Hunt says he wants to do more on social care. His grandmother died at the age of 100. Everyone should be able to die with dignity. That does not happen at the moment.
He says social care is unfinished business.
Gove says children are his top priority.
He says there needs to be more technical education.
If only they had been in positions to affect some kind of change? If they'd been part of some government or other for the past decade?
It's seems likely Boris Johnson isn't the only potential Tory PM who poses a clear and present danger to this country.
When Theresa May became leader she was considered the best of a bad lot. For all she's been both horrendous and hopeless, that first impression wasn't necessarily a wrong one. It could still be the case she was, indeed, the very best the Tories have to offer.

I noticed that Dominic Raab failed to get any audience applause for his peroration. Although he was the last up so, to be kind (why?), it may have been just bad floor management.

That's not the only time he used that in a work - it was in his book 7/7 as well.
Whoever wrote that note about Islamic entryism in Birmingham schools must have known that. And strangely enough, nobody managed to ascertain who actually wrote that note letter...

I find his style of writing deeply irritating, to the point that I can't be bothered to put in the effort to work out what he's trying to say.
I can accept he's a good writer and others appreciate his work but he does nothing for me personally.
Rather like I feel about Corbyn, tbh. I bet he's a Faulkner fan too.....it would explain so much....
Even if Ulysses had put you off ever reading anything again, I would definitely recommend Dubliners to anyone. I tried to pretend that I could read and understand Ulysses when I was a sixth former (studying 'Dubliners') but gave up pretty quickly.
I thought of having another go recently after reading something about Homer and Joyce because I was teaching a very a-b-c version of 'The Odyssey' to a Y8 class and Ulysses is supposed to be built around the narrative ideas of The Odyssey. It's one of those things where I don't know how to approach it without thinking it's going to be a job of work and I'm just not sure I can be bothered.

When the leadership contenders talk about 'what a disgrace' the state of certain provisions are, I do wonder if it dawns on them that their party has been in charge for about a decade... #C4Debate
But don't worry - I won't make a habit of it.

Anyway saw many male meadow pippets doing their splendidly entertaining displays today and there was a rather heartening number of skylarks about.
Sadly not many swallows or Martins. I fear it raining for a fortnight has really screwed them and they've gone elsewhere but will be back to try again once the sun comes out.
