Re: Thursday 20th June 2019
Isn't Boris Johnson versus Michael Gove just 'Steve Bannon stooge' versus 'Steve Bannon stooge'?
They've both been courted by him, after all, along with Rees-Mogg and Farage.
Jeremy Hunt appears to be a Steve Bannon-free zone, as far as I can tell. He's not tainted by the Vote Leave electoral fraud, either. A Murdoch stooge, of course, but you'd be hard pushed to find a Tory who isn't. I think he'd offer more of a choice up against Boris, though it would be a bit 'dumb and dumber'
As for partition, I'd be willing to move to Wales to stay in the EU. Sounds like a plan.

In case of a tie for second place (which, obviously, would necessitate another ballot, although MPs are still planning to bugger off home early because it's Thursday and the leadership contest is such an important issue) they are, apparently, arranging for proxy votes. Bit risky, I would have thought.

I bet I'm even closer to wales than you - I reckon its about ten miles.Willow904 wrote:Isn't Boris Johnson versus Michael Gove just 'Steve Bannon stooge' versus 'Steve Bannon stooge'?

Blimey. According to Politics Live (Guardian) there's even proxy voting going on for this bit. Such dedication. Does anyone here know if proxy votes in these circumstances are any more secure than other proxy votes - or is it a matter of trust?
Re: Thursday 20th June 2019
Yeah. About 30 miles to Chepstow. Lots of people commute from there to Bristol. The new hard border between Greater Britain and Little England will be a bit of a pain, but the beautiful scenery around the Wye Valley will more than make up for it.adam wrote:I bet I'm even closer to wales than you - I reckon its about ten miles.Willow904 wrote:Isn't Boris Johnson versus Michael Gove just 'Steve Bannon stooge' versus 'Steve Bannon stooge'?

Jeremy Hunt just squeaks in by two votes.
Boris Johnson on 160.

Gove shafted this time, after shafting Johnson back in 2016.

Re: Thursday 20th June 2019
I now await Michael Gove getting really nasty. Sarah Vine will go into overdrive.
Re: Thursday 20th June 2019
I'm rooting for the "Bannon free zone".
It's not completely impossible.
Hunt's meteoric rise through the ranks without even a hint of any discernible talent bar an ability to look a bit gormless in a non-threatening sort of way is nothing less than miraculous. If anyone could get unexpectedly promoted to PM against all the odds, it's Jeremy Hunt.

I'm still trying to process the way that, after deciding in 2016 that they had no interest in Boris Johnson being their leader, Conservative MPs then watched him dramatically screw up everything he attempted for the next three years, which somehow changed their minds.

Something he’s done before, at a guess.
Many threads on Twitter now and some disgusting comments defending him.
