An investigation into the treatment of six-stone Stephen Smith - who was wrongly denied benefits before his death - has shockingly found that the DWP 'followed policy'.

Not shocking of course.Obviously,no one should need to be protected from the State, vulnerable or otherwise you would have thought .A weird sort of disconnected mindset.

Expanding,it would have been absolute neglect and lack of fundamental responsibility for us not to ensure social care or.the exact opposite

After the meeting, Mr Stratford said: "Part of the problem, I guess, is that when I was a lad, mums stayed at home for much longer. There was less evidence of family break-up.
Yeah, cos it isn't Tory policy to force abandoned mothers of very young children who rely on benefits back into work or anything

How things change from selfish mother abnegating responsibility and harming children for daring to have an outside life of; now not chucking into the care of others is irresponsible and sanctionable.

The same *contradictions"apply in general,eg.we value carers that's why, legal action notwithstanding we will financially penalise nonspare rooms, adapted homes you can't move from (or should have to)include on back to work/work more hours piffle even though not expected to and specifically disallow any earnings for homeowner support.Pincer movements.

Went to hear this this bloke talk last night - he's put together lots of stuff from his blog into a book - Municipal Dreams - The Rise and Fall of Council Housing. He was very good and there was a really good turnout to listen too.

I follow him on that Twitter and have his book too - haven't read it yet mind, there's a number in front of him before I get to that one.

I note that Hammond is telling them like it is...and will thus almost certainly be out of a job soon.
There are some immutable truths that will continue to shape the Brexit debate over the coming months, no matter who is leader of the Tory party:

First, unless there is a general election, the parliamentary arithmetic will not change. Parliament will not allow no-deal; and on the evidence so far, parliament will not support the only deal that is on the table;

Secondly, the European Union will not renegotiate the deal.

And, thirdly, the Irish question, and with it the backstop, will not go away.

It may be that I’m wrong, and a new leader will persuade parliament to accept the deal it has already rejected.

Or that the European Union does a 180-degree U-turn and re-opens the withdrawal agreement.

But if I’m not, if the deal the current PM has negotiated is, in fact, the best deal possible; and parliament continues to reject both it and no-deal, then the question to the candidates is not “What is your plan?”; but “What is your plan B?”.

If your plan A is undeliverable, not having a plan B is like not having a plan at all.

So, the candidates need to be honest with the public. They need to recognise and address the difficult trade-offs inherent in delivering Brexit ...

If the new prime minister cannot end the deadlock in parliament, then he will have to explore other democratic mechanisms to break the impasse.

Because if he fails, his job will be on the line – and so, too, will the jobs and prosperity of millions of our fellow citizens.
It occurred to me last night that while a Johnson Premiership might be bad enough, a Johnson Cabinet may well be a freakshow of the shockingly bad and utterly useless.

I was part of the team that led the roll out of iPads at the UK Parliament. Our work showed these have a significantly lower cost for delivery of order papers, as well as enabling members to work more efficiently.

Have you considered actually doing some work on it?

He's already out of a job soon, otherwise he wouldn't have said it. It was just as true before May resigned.

The only good thing about Johnson as PM is that at least something will happen, any of the others will just continue the paralysis.

British arms sales to Saudi Arabia that were used in Yemen have been declared unlawful by the court of appeal because they contributed to indiscriminate civilian casualties in the bombing campaign from forces led by the Gulf kingdom.

Boris Johnson - 157

Jeremy Hunt - 59

Michael Gove - 61

Sajid Javid - 34

the thought of a Johnson/Gove final two is pretty horrific.

Given that Rory Stewart said he wasn't endorsing anyone, maybe he crossed the names out and put his own?

Though maybe Javid's backers are more a bit more likely to support Hunt?

We won't have to wait long to find out the answer this time in any case ;)

Well, I'd guess that Rory Stewart was one - he'd have to be to maintain any credibility, surely?

But who was the other one? Theresa May?!
