Shrewsbury Labour candidate Laura Davies loses no confidence vote
A statement from the Shrewsbury Constituency Labour Party today said: "At a packed Special General Meeting of the Shrewsbury & Atcham Constituency Labour Party on Wednesday evening, a decisive majority of members passed a motion of no confidence in Dr Davies, our parliamentary candidate, and asked her to stand down.

If I was looking to weigh in on Boris' side after him being mauled by Max Hastngs, I'm not convinced that convicted fraudster and Trump sycophant Conrad Black would be my first choice to be honest.

Well, one area that the Chris Williamson business is doing a very good job with is making clear the difference between serious left wing people on the one hand - who genuinely want Labour to win power and carry through a transforming agenda - and the conspiracy addicted cranks and zoomers on the other.
(the obsession some of the latter have with people being Lansman's "puppets" is all too revealing isn't it?)
Oh, and Keith Vaz - I have never liked you. Get in the bin

Literary scholars everywhere breathe a sigh of relief...
Johnson said if he became prime minister he would shelve the biography of Shakespeare that he has been writing.
One wonders which publisher thought he was the ideal person for the job though.

His books are generally preferable to JRM's effort tbf (though that is a low bar if ever there was)
An exception may be the Churchill biog, however - the straining to equate Winnie with you know who right now was just a bit *too* obvious

Given his - and Jonathan Simons - involvement You might think that said quite a lot about the idea of free-standing schools that were all the rage at one point but I couldn't possibly comment...

He just recently finished reading his job description, I guess. The top government official in charge of no-deal Brexit planning has quit just as the chances of crashing out of the EU appear to have increased.

He moved the the Brexit department when it was set up - I thought he'd left altogether and it was pointed out to me that he'd moved on. Very bright according to those who worked with him so it's a big loss - and the timing is terrible.

Is employment going to people qualified to do the work?

I know you did, Roger, I wasn't questioning that. The two positions seem quite different. I'm questioning whether or not he's qualified for either position.RogerOThornhill wrote:I did say "was"!citizenJA wrote:Who is this guy? Had a leading role in DofE and was head of no-deal Brexit? Re: Thursday 27th June 2019
I'm not picking on a civil servant. If people aren't given the right tools for what they're expected to do, they'll not be able to successfully complete the task. If people are chosen for roles they're not qualified to have, those hiring made a mistake.
