Having to prove you're going to die within the next six months in order to get the DWP to bust a move is outlandish. Make sure everyone ill has what's needed quickly.

Amber Rudd, one of the leading cabinet opponents of hard Brexit, has publicly ditched her opposition to no deal as senior Tories jostle for position in a Boris Johnson cabinet.
Rudd had previously joined with her cabinet colleagues David Gauke and Greg Clark to force Theresa May to take no deal off the table to stop the UK crashing out at the end of March.
But with Johnson on the brink of No 10, she has changed her mind, telling TalkRadio on Thursday morning: “Both candidates have said that no deal is part of the armoury going forward, and I have accepted that.

Any idea that the conservatives offer a way out of this mess should be taken with the usual pinch of salt.

Hmmm, she is still ambitious enough to hope for a job under the next PM.

But there are a certain number of Tory MPs who have pretty much burnt their bridges in that regard.

They are the ones to watch.

Some people seem genuinely irked that Labour HQ defended itself over last night's Panorama.

If the party genuinely believes the programme was inaccurate in the ways claimed, what are they supposed to do exactly?

The idea they should meekly roll over because it is an emotive subject - as some of the party's own MPs have implied - just seems a denial of natural justice to me.

It was a hatchet job by a hatchet man and the appropriate responses should be taken.

I can't help thinking that the Tories are in the same position now as Labour were a few years back i.e. with many prominent front-benchers refusing to serve under their leader (or potential leader).

Their problem is that things might unravel far quicker than it is for Corbyn.

With Question Time now blessedly gone for the Summer I thought I might have a rest from angry rants and mockery but I can't quite get the performance of Richard Tice out of my mind from Newsnight last night.

Tice is, of course, now an MEP along with being the joint director of the Brexit Party Ltd and former joint head of Leave.EU. He's also unremittingly thick, a transparent and shameless chancer, and a living embodiment of the Dunning–Kruger effect.

Last night on Newsnight he was sat between a former ambassador to Iran and a Times journalist both of whom were palpaply astonished at the unabashed idiocy coming out of his mouth and it only seemed to make him stronger. The more they pointed out to him that he was expressing unmitigated bollocks the more confident and arrogant he became. Like some really shit superhero impervious to ridicule. And as if that weren't bad enough he had the gall to claim he would have made better ambassador to the U.S, despite the fact that the people sitting either side of him clearly thought if he were any more dense he would collapse spacetime into a singularity.

What's truly depressing about this whole Brexit farce is just how many spectacularly dim-witted cretins it has raised to positions of genuine influence, from Richard Tice to Mark Francois. People who not only seem to be brazenly and perversely proud of their ignorance, but also revel in the fact when others are infuriated by it, while all the time being cheered on by an alarmingly sizeable minority of our population.

Quite how 'Brexit Britain' is supposed to thrive when having a brain is seen as a hindrance is quite beyond me.

My Dad used to warn me as a kid about bullies hassling me at school about reading books and the like, and to be honest I never experienced that kind of anti-intellectualism even in a small town in the Seventies. Amongst the working class then there was still a strong ethic that learning was good, it was a way to better yourself, do better than your parents, it was something to be proud of. But the events of the last few years have persuaded me that those times are now long gone. Anti-intellectualism never leads to good places and I fear we may end up doing a lot of going backwards before we end up going forwards again.

Or it could just be I've been making my way through Blake's 7 and its glorious pessimism has rubbed off a bit.

Despite previously saying she wouldn't share a taxi with him and doing all she could to prevent a no deal brexit.
