"Inexcusable", "disgraceful", "pathetic". There's lots of words to describe this but the implication of some kind of surprise in the word "shocking" makes it somewhat less apt. Depressingly this is just what you would expect from our current government.

So the TIG MPs who left Change UK have now formed a new group called "The Independents" - and been joined by alleged sex pest John Woodcock.

Except for Sarah Wollaston, who is staying as an independent Independent.

Got all that?

Didn't Labour attempt to set up and run tax credits claims online and had to quickly abandon it because they couldn't make it secure enough to prevent fraud?

Can we get in quick and appoint a new US Ambassador before Boris Johnson gets his hands on the matter?

Edited to make sense

I think Trump is fascinated and covetous of the centuries of power the UK monarch represents.

Anyway - Donald Trump's State Visit was money well spent, and worth every penny.

Q: What is the process for appointing a new ambassador?

[Sir Simon] McDonald [Head of the Foreign Office] says the standard procedure is for the post to be advertised, candidates to be interviewed, and then decisions taken by the foreign secretary and the prime minister. But that process is not always followed when a new ambassador to Washington is being appointed, he says. (Politics Live, Guardian)

With all the usual caveats re the messenger, it's interesting to see that the US has, in this instance, been busted to the ranks of "foreign governments".

Quote:
Another senior Tory has criticised Boris Johnson for refusing to stand up for Sir Kim Darroch, This is from Patrick McLoughlin, the former Tory chief whip, who is supporting Jeremy Hunt for the Tory leadership.

It is unedifying to see someone who wants to be prime minister failing to stand up for hard working civil servants, who have done nothing wrong, under attack from foreign governments. Leadership involves standing up for your team. If we don’t call out those who want a witch-hunt through the civil service we are complicit in creating divisions that may never heal.

I never thought I would be sitting in the UK awaiting a TV programme that many people believe will wilfully misrepresent the leader of the opposition.

What have we become?

Well, we have some interesting and at least plausible claims by Labour HQ (tweeted by Alex Wickham, inter alia) about how the programme was misleading.

Lets see what, if anything, comes from them.

Having said that, it is undeniable that *some* of the stuff in the programme was not good. But quite a lot of that happened before the new team took over at party HQ.

Johnson’s failure to stand up to Trump over Kim Darroch underlines that the trajectory of the Brexiters is to lock the UK into a wholly subordinate relationship with the USA. Far from standing up for Britain they look to America for their world view and their economic outlook.

Yep.

And oh look...the Johnson effect on anyone writing for the Telegraph has spread to those allegedly on the left...
