Morning all.

I see that someone at The Guardian has read a book that is likely to be in most bookshops - and a copy of which is on my bookshelf.

So why they feel the need to imply that they spent hours in a dusty archive before finding the one copy is a bit odd.
Boris Johnson has been strongly criticised for arguing Islam has caused the Muslim world to be “literally centuries behind” the west, in an essay unearthed by the Guardian.

Writing about the rise of the religion in an appendix added to a later edition of The Dream of Rome, his 2006 book about the Roman empire, Johnson said there was something about Islam that hindered development in parts of the globe and, as a result, “Muslim grievance” was a factor in virtually every conflict.
We "unearthed" an 1886 building plan for a police station last week but as it is a single copy (in pieces) and filed in a completely different box I think that it's valid to say that.

Linked to from the daily politics in the Graun, a very very good thread on where we've been with negotiations so far...

The first reply to that thread shows what we are up against, however.

John Lanchester has written a long article on Universal Basic Income which may be of interest.

Aargh, have to log in to see it.

Didn't they used to let you read a certain number of articles free per month?

Gove has apparently grovellingly "endorsed" BoJo, saying he would make a "great prime minister".

I at least thought you might have a shred of self-respect, man

van der Leyen - shabby stitch up.

What were Labour MEPs doing voting for her FFS?

I'll have to do some research before I can respond.
I may get side-tracked.
Lifts, pillars, squirrels and spin - I can't keep up.

Was there a lunar eclipse tonight? Because while going from one place to drink booze to another it seemed to me like a dragon had eaten half of the moon.

It looked yellow and weird and half of it was missing.
