I think it's just that we've been hearing about the possibility of Johnson being PM for years. Patel as HS never crossed my mind. Shows how far we've come.

Apparently both Sanders and Warren were very good in the Dems debate this morning.

In particular, the latter calling out those of her fellow hopefuls who simply tell us why we CAN'T do things.

An affliction that very much affects "moderates" and "centrists" this side of the pond too.

A lot of the shenanigans of the original EU referendum were novel, catching our electoral commission and archaic electoral law offguard, but what happens now especially after Cambridge Analytica and data manipulation have been exposed? Can the same chancers pull off a similar trick to keep Johnson in power and get hard Brexit over the line? It's clear they've got a plan and a whole heap of money but how critical is the element of surprise to pulling off such plans when the detriment to the country's interests are clear?

I'm still sceptical as to how much difference they really made in 2016, though acting to curb such things is right in principle anyway.

You don't break electoral law to co-ordinate the spending of vast sums of money on obscure Canadian company AIQ for no reason. Arron Banks didn't make the biggest ever UK political donation thinking it wasn't necessary and wouldn't make a difference.

Only when it's acknowledged that the uneven spending of money and illegal activity does affect political outcomes and thus undermines democracy will steps be taken to prevent it. This isn't like the small, widespread overspends of the past, where all sides were at it to some degree and thus effects were mostly balanced out. One side gave itself an edge through novel illegal activity to win. When that happens in F1, if the rules aren't tightened up to effectively close the loophole, all competitors inevitably have to employ the same or similar cheat if they are to have any chance of winning. An "honest" win becomes impossible.
