Beautifully written as ever but deeply troubling:

http://wwwbrokenbarnet.blogspot.com/201 ... tempt.html
It has been a while since so many people turned up to demonstrate before a council meeting: such is the strength of feeling amongst residents in regard to the removal of their rights freely to question members on policies and decisions that affect their lives, their environment, and their public services. The public gallery was packed, and indeed overflowing. Barnet Tories have scored a spectacular own goal by galvanising the resistance amongst local residents to their administration, in this way. Hats off.
I wonder if Mr Pickles knows or even cares.

no-deal opponents would have to relegate every other political interest and impulse - party, faction, personal and political and unite in pursuit of that goal. As yet there is no sign of it.

Though that is a contrast to polling, which is now suggesting that remainers are more angry and motivated than leavers.

I don't think the article is referring to voters.

Not taking sides on the GNU business but at some stage Labour needs to get its head around the fact that if it ever forms a government again it will very likely be a coalition or minority administration.

I think "ever" is over-pessimistc about Labour's likely chances, but yes a majority government is always going to be hard as long as Scotland remains (mostly) lost.

I'm re-reading Worden's, The English Civil Wars (1640 - 1660), originally published in 2009. If anyone has a good non-fictional recommendation for this topic, please let me know.

I think there is only one MP in either the Cabinet or Shadow Cabinet who could have a "gnu" anagram, i.e. they have the letters G, N and U in their name.

So, who is it?
