Some Members of Parliament long professing their horror of 'no-deal' Brexit prefer 'no-deal' Brexit over cooperating with Labour.

So according to AC Grayling, Chuka Umunna etc., Corbyn is insisting on leading a VONC because he actually wants a No Deal Brexit.
If only he would relent Harriet Harman could step in and get all the votes needed.
So, No Deal will be all Corbyn's fault.
It's awful.
One thing I haven't heard is where the Labour Brexiteers stand on all this. Presumably most of them will vote with Corbyn on this.
If only he would relent Harriet Harman could step in and get all the votes needed.

I'm supposed to believe those seriously suggesting Corbyn wants a 'no-deal' Brexit? I don't believe it because there's absolutely no evidence whatsoever supporting it.PaulfromYorkshire wrote:So according to AC Grayling, Chuka Umunna etc., Corbyn is insisting on leading a VONC because he actually wants a No Deal Brexit.

Is this "abandoned highstreets" problem (on this scale) common in other parts of the EU (which also has to contend with the rise of internet shopping) or is it a UK-specific phenomenon? We never seem to hear about it (or at least I don't) happening. The place is getting more like Detroit by the day.HindleA wrote:https://www.theguardian.com/politics/20 ... d-up-shops

It was pointed out this morning that the 2017 Manifesto has this:PaulfromYorkshire wrote:So according to AC Grayling, Chuka Umunna etc., Corbyn is insisting on leading a VONC because he actually wants a No Deal Brexit.

Labour recognises that leaving the EU with ‘no deal’ is the worst possible deal for Britain and that it would do
damage to our economy and trade. We will reject ‘no deal’ as a viable option and if needs be negotiate
transitional arrangements to avoid a cliff-edge’ for the economy.
So right now Corbyn is following the manifesto commitment.

The question the PM hasn’t addressed is what happens after his No Deal Brexit. How long will he subject UK businesses to the tariffs and disruption they will face? And what will he do when the EU asks for the money we owe and an Irish backstop before they will discuss a deal ?
Johnson has got what he's always wanted but is doing a "I'll sort it out tomorrow" on the tough questions.

Whatever the hell they are they need to fix their little problems. Millions of people's lives are at stake. The current Tory PM doesn't care.AnatolyKasparov wrote:Alt-centrists are, honestly, perhaps the biggest "projectors" I have ever known.

Highly sensitive ingredients are compromised and rendered ineffective when subjected to high or very low temperatures, direct sunlight and exposure. I drape damp cloths over containers placed on the floor in a shaded place indoors when it's hot. I've saved most of them, I think.PorFavor wrote:By the way - did your expensive paints etc survive the heat (which has now, unfortunately for me, gone away) ?citizenJA wrote:I've been preoccupied with some minor difficulties. I rather regret employing google translate. Suffice to say, said Russian contribution appears to have little to no relationship to politics.

Thanks for the laughs willow.
I've been to a wedding today, it wasn't very exciting.
Re RO'Ts quote from Hilary Benn upthread about how long would no deal be for, I did see one suggestion about what Johnson's up to which assumed he knew perfectly well that he'd be back in Brussels sharpish thereafter. Sequence was leave with no deal, win a GE before too much shit hits the fan, dump the DUP and sign up to a NI only backstop. What could possibly go wrong?
I've also seen a plausible piece suggesting that he really thinks the EU will blink.
It occurred to me that we're in much the same position with Johnson as we were with May, we really don't know what the strategy is. We know now that May didn't have one beyond getting through the next day/week, but BJ gives every appearance of having a plan, but what is it?
