Though it has to be said "plans" is quite possibly over-generous here.Willow904 wrote:https://amp.theguardian.com/politics/20 ... ssion=trueBrexit free-movement cutoff plans worse than Windrush, says Abbott

It's being reported that Priti Patel has ordered her top civil servants to fly off to Singapore to see how they deal with borders there.
Besides the odd fascination that they seem to have with the place, this seems to be a "Something must be done. This is something. Therefore we must do this"...

I don't see how Singapore deals with its borders is relevant to the situation.RogerOThornhill wrote:It's being reported that Priti Patel has ordered her top civil servants to fly off to Singapore to see how they deal with borders there.

Isn't that the point, though? They are supposed to be a government actually in charge of legislation which needs to be properly laid out and detailed, yet instead we're getting vague, half-formed ideas being thrown out there like they're a mere opposition trying to get elected.AnatolyKasparov wrote:Though it has to be said "plans" is quite possibly over-generous here.Willow904 wrote:https://amp.theguardian.com/politics/20 ... ssion=trueBrexit free-movement cutoff plans worse than Windrush, says Abbott

Taking on the populist rhetoric and picking holes in it like it's a proper government plan is the only way to expose this isn't a proper government.
If it were a Labour government the MSM would be having a field day with this disorganised shit and all the "what ifs". What if an EU citizen with settlement rights in the UK wants to visit the EU after we crash out on Oct 31st, will leaving the UK affect their settled status claim? If the government can't answer that question before the date we leave the EU they have no business calling themselves a government and they have no right to claim they are prepared for a "no deal" Brexit.

I would expect to see some back=pedalling later when questions are raised in the form of "Yes, well, that's not quite what we meant by 'close the borders'"

The Europe editor at the Telegraph seems a bit out of tune with the rest of the paper - probably because he seems to know what he's talking about.
