We're well into you couldn't make it up territory, with Trump/Greenland and Johnson's latest wizard wheeze.
Johnson’s big idea to replace the backstop? Allies tell me he wants a bilateral agreement with Ireland that will see Dublin diverge from EU rules temporarily to share a common rule book with the UK
No 10 apparently backtracking like crazy on that one.

Good morfternoon.

(Mutjaba Rahman is billed as a Brexit specialist from the Asia consultancy. Never heard of it, personally.)

Mujtaba Rahman @Mij_Europe

I hear No10 hosing down Sun story. Boris allies say he’s not considering any plan that requires Ireland to leave Single Market or pretends it can be in or out of it at same time. Minister quoted in story appears to have no idea of govt’s plans. Good

To be more accurate, some of them can't - one of the interesting things about the past week has been the splits appearing in their ranks on Corbyn's offer.

'Unelected PM ... gambling with peace' - Irish European commissioner launches fierce attack on Boris Johnson

Phil Hogan, the European commissioner for agriculture and an Irish politician from Leo Varadkar’s Fine Gael party, has launched what the Irish Independent (rightly) describes as a “scathing attack” on Boris Johnson. He was speaking this morning at an event in Carlingford in Ireland. Hogan’s own account of his message on Twitter is bland and unexceptional. (Politics Live, Guardian)

UK will still have to pay £39bn to EU even in event of no-deal Brexit, France claims

Reuters has some more news alerts from the French government briefing also attended by Bloomberg. (See 3.26pm.) They’re capped up, because that’s how Reuters sends them out on the news wires.

EU POSITION ON BREXIT WON’T CHANGE EVEN IN CASE OF PRESSURE FROM TRUMP - FRENCH OFFICIAL

EVEN IN CASE OF NO-DEAL, EU WILL CONSIDER BREXIT BILL TO BE DUE - FRENCH OFFICIAL

EU WOULD PROBABLY ACCEPT TO GRANT BRITAIN A DELAY ON BREXIT TO HOLD NEW ELECTIONS - FRENCH OFFICIAL

BRITAIN SHOULD HAVE NO DOUBT FRANCE, GERMANY AND OTHER EU COUNTRIES ARE TOTALLY UNITED - FRENCH OFFICIAL (Politics Live, Guardian)

Corbyn arranges all-party 'tactics' meeting to fight no-deal Brexit

Labour leader urges MPs to join him and work together to head off ‘constitutional storm’

Jeremy Corbyn will gather opposition leaders and Tory rebels at a meeting in parliament next week to discuss the fight against a no-deal Brexit, amid continuing splits over tactics to prevent Boris Johnson leading a crash-out from the EU on 31 October.

The Labour leader invited SNP, Liberal Democrat, Plaid Cymru, Conservative and independent MPs to visit his office on Tuesday, as he urged them to talk about “all tactics available to prevent no deal”.

His invitation was immediately accepted by Ian Blackford, the SNP Westminster leader, who has been calling for weeks for opposition parties to work together. “All options must be on the table. The SNP stands ready to pursue every avenue, including passing legislation to block no deal and a vote of no confidence in the Tory government,” he said.

Jo Swinson, the Lib Dem leader, also accepted the invitation but argued that Corbyn should drop the idea of trying to become a temporary caretaker prime minister. (Guardian)

Why did the G add 'report says' to that headline? Is anybody disputing that it's a fact? Is the Children's Commissioner not a statutory appointment?
The role was initially established under the Children Act 2004 which gave the Commissioner responsibility for promoting awareness of the views and interests of children......................The Children and Families Act 2014 further strengthened the remit, powers and independence of the Commissioner, and gave her special responsibility for the rights of children who are in or leaving care, living away from home or receiving social care services. She also speaks for wider groups of children on non-devolved issues including immigration (for the whole of the UK) and youth justice (for England and Wales).
