From a surge in racist attacks to anger over food shortages and chaos at the border, some risk experts are warning that Britain’s potential exit from the European Union without a deal could lead to violence and unrest.

What I mean is that Johnson would love Labour to be the new May, extending and kicking the can down the street. The GE strategy is good because it speaks to resolution of the issue, though an extension would obviously be needed.Willow904 wrote:The only way no deal exit on 31st Oct can be averted without pressing for an extension (or revocation, of course) would be to vote through the current WA immediately on resumption of parliament and cancel recess in order to create enough parliamentary time to ratify it. Labour pressing for an extension seems more likely than agreeing to a WA they rejected only a few months ago. What else is possible?PaulfromYorkshire wrote:I agree. Johnson always has the option of seeking an election.
I think Labour will avoid being seen as actively campaigning for an extension, even if that is a consequence of their policy.

Re: Saturday 31st August & Sunday 1st September 2019
Apparently, tomorrow's meeting between Boris Johnson and "rebel" Conservatives has been cancelled.
Edited to add - cancelled by Boris Johnson (or whoever), not the "rebels".

I felt like leaving because it meant arguing against people I liked. I don't like being a dick to people I like so I went off into the wilds to count squirrels.
We had to catch them in nets then gas them in plastic bags, and it's only up close you see the damage we have done.
From a virus caught from the greys to being outcompeted by the greys themselves our tufty eared wee friends are having a terrible time.
The census I took part in made for depressing reading.
Then again, I put the odds of the survival of the Northumbrian red squirrel somewhat lower than the odds of a no deal brexit being stopped this week.

Court challenges - No chance.
A government of national unity - No chance.
Some kind of constitutional wheeze - We'll see.
