Apparently opposition MPs plan to amend Johnson's election bill so that he has to agree to the anti-No Deal legislation before dissolving Parliament.

Soames on Newsnight said losing last night was part of the plan, even if it is BJ obviously doesn't like it.

I'm not convinced by the idea that govt would move a GE to 31 Oct/1 Nov.
He wants to go to the country on a no deal manifesto with Farage onside. Any anti-no-deal legislation could be repealed if he won a majority.

Eventually parliament's going to have to bite the bullet on a GE, surely.

It's funny how reluctant we are to believe that Cummings and Johnson are simply ballsing it up!

Yes, when the PM has been humiliated by having to acquiesce in us not leaving the EU on Oct 31 after all.

"Healthcare: check you’re covered
You should always get appropriate travel insurance with healthcare cover before you go abroad.

After Brexit your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) card may not be valid.

It’s particularly important you get travel insurance with the right cover if you have a pre-existing medical condition. This is because the EHIC scheme covers pre-existing conditions, while many travel insurance policies do not."

And given his clowning around this morning after supporting Johnson yesterday, I have changed my mind on John Mann.

Take the whip off him, if it means we lose Bassetlaw at the GE so be it

From the G liveblog:

Stephen Barclay, the Brexit secretary, is winding up the second reading debate on the Benn bill for the government.

He claims the bill would undermine the government’s negotiation with the EU. And he insists progress is being made. Originally the EU said with the withdrawal agreement could not be rewritten, he says. But now they are saying they are open to effective alternatives to the backstop.
Maybe it's just me but I could have sworn the EU have been open to effective alternatives to the backstop for the last two years. I thought it was the UK's lack of being able to propose anything effective rather than the EU's willingness to accept an alternative that was the problem.

I mean, I can see how this nonsense might play well in the papers, but to actually expect well briefed MPs to swallow this horseshit is really something.

It looks like the Kinnock amendment to put Theresa May's deal back to the Commons for another vote just went through by mistake.... things are getting very very odd around here indeed

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.....

MPs started voting on Stephen Kinnock’s amendment 6. But then, a few minutes into voting, Lindsay Hoyle, announced that the division had been called off because the amendment had been passed - because MPs opposed to it did not put up tellers.

'Here is the explanation of what the Kinnock amendment does.

This amendment would set out as the purpose of seeking an extension under article 50(3) TEU the passage of a withdrawal agreement bill based on the outcome of the inter-party talks which concluded in May 2019 – see NC1 for contents of the Bill and Amendment XX for text of the request letter to the European Council.

This means that, if the PM needs to request an article 50 extension (because he has not negotiated a new deal, and MPs have not voted to approve a no-deal Brexit), then getting an extension to pass a version of the Theresa May deal becomes government policy.

Effectively, that means that any Brexit delay would not be a blind delay; it would be a delay to enable a version of the Theresa May going through.

It is not clear whether this has passed by accident - or as a result of some cunning plot.'

Since the EU have already said they won’t give an extension for more of the same isn’t the kinnock amendment guaranteeing no extension?

Or am I missing something?

It's suggested that it shifts the delay - heading towards a referendum - to leading instead to May's brexit deal.
