One of my supposed day's off from avoiding work. They are rewriting contract on an enhanced basis, shall we say.So vital is my contribution, otherwise known as nobody else is stupid enough, five months was the previous "record".May have pushed it with over 55 concessionary hourly fag breaks and a suit of armour.

Lawns getting "killed"next weeks,Tarquin taking it personally;attempts to persuade new ones will make it easier for him to no avail.

Amazing that he hasn't deleted it yet, some of the replies are genuine classics.

I'll not have Quentin advising me. I don't think he'd get along with the other members of my team.

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/20 ... stop-talksBoris Johnson’s Irish border plan stalls after 'disastrous' EU talks
British proposal to involve Stormont assembly in backstop alternative knocked back by EU
Boris Johnson’s first concrete proposal for replacing the Irish backstop has hit the buffers in the latest “disastrous” meeting between the prime minister’s chief negotiator and the EU.
EU officials involved in the negotiations are understood to have lamented that Frost has been acting “like a spokesman” for the prime minister, saying that Theresa May’s envoy, Olly Robbins, had at least been able to talk around the problems encountered in the talks. (Guardian)
Re: Friday 6th September 2019
Frost didn't persuade. He had on his persuasive tie but it wasn't enough.

Re: Friday 6th September 2019
So the No Deal bill has cleared the Lord's amended so can straight for Royal assent.
Presumably that means the accidental Kinnock amendment is still there!

Re: Friday 6th September 2019
It appears the Lords judged it more practical to retain the Kinnock amendment and deal with it later rather than remove it and have to send the bill back to the Commons.

Re: Friday 6th September 2019
Many suggestions that Johnson will now resign as PM (but not as Tory leader).
Re: Friday 6th September 2019
Interestingly what the EU teams seem to be saying is that Robbins was there to discuss, react and negotiate but Frost is only there as Johnson's mouthpiece - all he can do is say what his boss wants and then go back for more instructions.citizenJA wrote:Frost didn't persuade. Even given the very very very low opinion I have of him, I think he's doing really astonishingly badly. This is the man who got 'Labour London' to elect him Mayor. Twice.PaulfromYorkshire wrote:Many suggestions that Johnson will now resign as PM (but not as Tory leader).

Re: Friday 6th September 2019
There is an intersting argument out there that now that Johnson doesn't have any reason to keep the DUP onside he could revert to throwing NI under the bus and just remove it from the UK's economic zone and leave it in the EU, taking the rest of us out. It would be quite a policy shift, but that might not stop him.

Yes - the most sensible course of action, really.PaulfromYorkshire wrote:It appears the Lords judged it more practical to retain the Kinnock amendment and deal with it later rather than remove it and have to send the bill back to the Commons.
