Morning all.

There's been a whole lot of hypocrisy about Labour's plan to abolish Ofsted from those who'd previously been very vocal on doing just that (looking at you Katharine Birbalsingh) but this is good as you might expect from Sam Freedman.

After the Mail on Sunday backed down (perhaps in face of a legal challenge?), I present Scum II

https://twitter.com/JolyonMaugham/statu ... 1369031680
In 2013, when I was not a public figure, I gave an interview to a local newspaper about my plans to restore a local heritage asset. @JuliaHB1 has now issued an open invitation to those sending me death threats to come and find me and my three young children at that isolated spot.

People have been excluded from Twitter for less, though as ever it is different for blue ticks it appears.

Heather Stewart

@GuardianHeather

Labour remain activists caught by surprise at the number of speakers in conference hall this afternoon urging colleagues to back Jeremy Corbyn.
They fear despite the support of Unison and Usdaw, they may be on course to lose tonight.

Twitter is quite astonishing really.

Folk who have literally spent the last three years shouting at Corbyn to hold a Peoples Vote now shrieking betrayal.

What they want is Brexit turned into a full on culture war with one side crushing the other.

I might not be *quite* so unhappy at that if I didn't think Johnson/Cummings are better placed to win such a thing.

But, in all likelihood, they are.

(oh, and what happens if we do leave at the end of next month - with a deal or not?)

Keir Starmer said, "“A referendum in which remain should, and will, be on the ballot paper, along with the best leave deal that can be secured. We owe it to those who want to leave to secure that leave deal and put it to them in a referendum."

It seems a fair competition.

I'm not sure about that. I very very strongly suspect that we will get a lot of 'I see the sky hasn't fallen' comments whilst the EU's imposed-for-its-own-benefit-without-reference-to-us transitions take effect, but I do think that either there is a formal extension or we cease to be members at 11pm (midnight Central European TIme, the final insult) on 31st October. If they fudge some kind of last minute extension, we will know.
