Morning all.

This one looks to be a bit of a hypocrite...

https://twitter.com/abdul_turay" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Standing for The Brexit Party against David Lammy and being bigged up by Spiked.

But...that website is a little odd - Estonia Today? Turns out he's married to an Estonian and has lived there sine about 2009...isn't free movement wonderful?

Oh, and elsewhere last year he said he wanted to become an Estonian citizen...and from an article on his own feed....
A few months later, his party — the Social Democrats — asked if he would run to be a member of the European Parliament in 2014, specifically campaigning on a need to further integrate the EU's 28 countries. "I don't look like everyone else here," he told the BBC at the time, "so I'm visible proof that European integration can work." He wound up losing the race and eventually left the Social Democrats last month, keeping his seat on the city council as an independent.

Thanks to the EU's freedom of movement for citizens, Turay was able to keep his British citizenship throughout his entire political career. But now, with the U.K. having voted to leave the EU, he's forced to weigh his options — because he can't serve as an elected official in Estonia and remain a Brit once the U.K. officially leaves.

"I'm a pretty good example of how Europe does offer opportunity for people from all over Europe because being black, as I am, I still managed to get elected here and I work here and have a family here," he told BuzzFeed News. "And that — none of this would've happened if the EU didn't exist."
:D

"Private firms own 94% of the UK’s total stock of 464,900 beds, according to data collated by care market specialists Laing and Buisson. Of those, 376,000 (81%) belong to profit-driven firms"

I'm shocked shocked to find that you can't trust anything the PM is saying about his own deal!

And this one's quite funny as well.

The Prime Minister also criticises Corbyn’s policy which is to “chuck this deal away” and “go off” and negotiate his own deal, which was, well, precisely his policy when he took over.

Economist Report shows anti-Semitism more than 3 times higher on the right than the left of UK politics.

Obviously this won't be making it to a mainstream media outlet near you

It is unacceptable,no if or buts.I make no such distinction. The "you lot have more of it" stuff just gives ammunition, and rightly so.

There's been calls for BBC News to stop the paper reviews during the election campaign, because of the press right-wing bias.
Good example this morning, although on Sky, not on BBC. 10 mins dedicated to Ian Austin.

It really isn't hard to find stuff on twitter showing Austin for the rotten character he is.

I see that Shylock is trending as yet another Labour PPC bites the dust. Can't help thinking that the suddenness of the election being called stopped a lot of due diligence in weeding out these types.

And overnight the Tory who thought that women should keep their knickers on if they wanted to avoid being raped dropped out.

All going well then on both sides?

Tory hopeful was selected for a safe Norfolk seat, Labour's in a hopeless (and was even in the "good old days") Scottish one. Arguably a slight difference there.

One question might be, with so many late selections/retirements/withdrawals for both the "main" parties, could there be one or two that come too late to be replaced?

(IIRC nominations close next Thursday afternoon)

We are told we will have a new candidate in time to campaign in town tomorrow morning. Nobody knows who it is but everybody is sure they know who it is, if you see what I mean. In terms of diligence, in emergencies there is a good stock of recently vetted candidates who stood for the European Parliament in May (*cough* which, yes, seems to be relevant to my constituency).

Yes, the kerfuffle in your seat has been more widely noted. Hospital closures/reorganisations really can be a "hot button" issue.

Oops.

THE TIMES CLAIMS CORBYN VOTED AGAINST FALKLANDS WAR DESPITE CORBYN NOT BEING AN MP AT THE TIME

https://evolvepolitics.com/the-times-cl ... -the-time/
Despite the gravity of their error, today’s Times Corrections and Clarifications page contained a typically understated correction, simply acknowledging that:

“We wrongly stated in early editions (News, Nov 6) that as an MP Jeremy Corbyn voted against military intervention in the Falklands. Mr Corbyn was first elected to parliament the year after the Falklands War.”

The correction has also been added to the bottom of the original article.

Interestingly I've seen in local press, especially btl, 'Thank god Corbyn wasn't in charge when the Falklands War happened' a couple of times recently. To which the answer, of course, is that it wouldn't have happened, because Labour kept Argentina at bay when they were in government by taking a range of active steps all of which Thatcher overturned to open the door.

Dear Ian Austin and other Tories,
Please don’t use the Holocaust or the threat of antisemitism as a means of attracting people to the party of Windrush, the ‘hostile environment ‘ the anti-refugee truck and 20 years of austerity. Yours, Michael Rosen

I see that Ian Austin was protesting about John McDonnell had said he was "employed by the Tories" in his role as Trade Envoy.

So...I took a look at who they were and their party affiliations.

Tory......... 17
Lib Dem......3
Labour........3
DUP........... 1
Other..........1

Hmm...not exactly balanced is it?

YouGov's regional polling is shockingly bad but I wonder how different it is from the last campaign. It's also followng the last election in being very much a two party system with regional variety rather than showing the lib dems challenging in the way they suggest they are.

With the exception of the London figures (a "proper" poll done at the start of the month) it is apparently weeks old sub-samples.
