The whole exchange concerning the Hastings and Rye hustings and paying some people with a learning disability less than others to work on the basis they don't know the concept of money is worth a look on Facebook ,particularly the response of the Green candidate in citing the view /positing the.m.w/wage level/health and safety etc is a barrier. In essence ,have we the right to project/deem exploitation if the person themselves is o.k with it and/or "protecting"denies others right to participate/say they are wrong.

To be clear ,the Tory view is the appropriation of the right to work ,thoroughly skewed, but equally projecting our view that we wouldn't do it -I have in mind a more general subject to tasks undertaken-can and often is,a sneering look down/devaluing/judgement of that task.

Not the same but not dissimilar to the "burden/exploitation "of carers, same as JSA-if you are going along that track of thinking is hardly(especially given the exact opposite circumstances)a ringing endorsement nor indeed "pay the m.w"-given the skills and tasks involved variety ,not helpful of course in the false portrayal of what may be involved. It wasn't a burden,if you are going to really value look beyond such mis-equivalences IMHO.

“The public are fed up with" is fast becoming as big a whopper as when a politician begins with "The fact is"...

Paying someone with learning disabilities less because one can get away with it
'He said I could exploit him'
Have I understood the situation correctly?

Most people don't have resources enough to give their time and labour away for free
They may wish they could volunteer but can't afford to do it
What about them?

There's so much good, necessary work needing doing, people willing and able to do it
People should be able to do that work without having to fear homelessness and hunger

If you are being specific, you ensure adequate extra costs allowances and support to self organise, including decidng for yourself, actual independent living isn't from the State's beneficence, the Greens to be fair ,get this to an extent

I'm not agreeing with the worker-the context can only be judged by listening/watching the hustings I'm putting his view via the Green candidate, his voice is as valid as any other.

A waffling attempt to advocate a different starting point where denial isn't the default until the necessary societal changes/not least in attitude-perhaps think in terms of incalculation that you are incapable rather than made incapable.

Tory ministers back candidates accused of Islamophobia

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/dec/06/tory-ministers-back-candidates-accused-of-islamophobia

Quote:
In constituency visits that appear to contradict Boris Johnson’s repeated claim that the party has a “zero tolerance” stance on the issue, Sajid Javid, Matt Hancock, Andrea Leadsom and Thérèse Coffey have thrown their weight behind the accused candidates – all of whom are fighting in key marginal battlegrounds.

Incidents include one candidate who argued that Muslims have divided loyalties, as well as blaming immigrants for bringing HIV to Britain, and another who retweeted posts from former English Defence League leader Tommy Robinson.

That reminds me of something else but I can't quite put my finger on what right now. I;m sure it'll come to me at some point...

I don't often praise Tories but Robert Jenrick deserves some for putting a hold on plans to redevelop Whitechapel Bell Foundry into a 'boutique hotel'*

https://twitter.com/SavetheWbf/status/1 ... 7625294848

* which I think is rooms plus a reception desk and nothing else. There's one in Oxford that I used a year or so back...but it did give me the opportunity of finding the Turl Street Kitchen whose breakfasts were yummy - an ideal way to start a day.

Breaking:

former Tory prime minister is refusing to back the Tories:

"Sir John Major will today urge voters to back rebel candidates running against Boris Johnson’s Conservatives in next week's general election."

Quite puts the Joyce Ryan and John Mann's of this world who are urging people to vote Tory into sharp context...

Currently a Tory/LibDem marginal at local level.

Brand then tried to wriggle out by claiming "they were actually from Wirksworth" (which does have quite a strong Labour vote)

The factory is in fact considerably nearer to Matlock than Wirksworth.

Journalists should try checking things for themselves and not just taking CCO spin lines at face value.
